If it should eventually be learned that my "opting out" did not prevent all MS User data collection, then I'll restore my Win7 system.

No. Don’t use Apple stuff. I liked NT, and XP was pretty good. Linux is OK as well; and, will be my next OS of choice. I’ll run an XP under VMWare.
