Blow to the back of the head on a treadmill, enough to cause great blood loss....hmmm.... I would guess that there was a sigficant scalp laceration. The scalp is well vascularized and can be very bloody when injured.

After just viewing a treadmill accident video with hubby, I have to say - back of the head - is odd. I would expect more of a falling face first accident.
Unless someone comes up behind you and smacks you in the head. My guess - robbery or such.
