Hiya PROCON!...glad to know I’m someone’s “favorite”. ;^)
Thank you for the blessings and I wish you and yours the same.
I agree.
Mormons are the most conservative voting block in the country. They must also be the most unconcerned about their children, too. It doesn’t fit.
I would disagree about them not caring for their children, they do. I know many and they are loving, almost to a fault.
It’s a bit more delicate or nuanced...when the 1st Presidency speaks, unless one is willing to leave the mormon church, one obeys.
Sorry, conservative parents are not going to allow their children to be subjected to that.
No, I do hear what you’re saying. I’m trying hard here to not hijack this into a religious debate/discussion...there’s another forum for that. But it is important to understand the kind of thinking that is involved here when it comes to LDS scouting.
It’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived as a mormon or are intimately familiar with how things tend to operate within the local congregations and up to SLC.
I doubt many would allow their sons to go camping with on outed homosexual...but as many long term Scouters will tell you, many parents in this day and age have become quite disconnected from their kids.
In the mormon program, many parents delegate their involvement to only those adults who have been assigned [”called by the lord” as they put it] as the leaders.
So it has been shown by this lawsuit...the LDS assigned a man who shouldn’t have been and parents placed their trust not only in him, but the church authority who placed him there.
Their kids are automatically enrolled, it’s not like the parents sought it out and are engaged like conventional units. They [lds] all don’t have the “buy-in” that conventional units see.
Something is definitely out of kilter all the way around.
Agreed.
Why is the church’s fault if a boy scout was raped by a leader. My boy scout troop was sponsored by my school. If someone raped me... I wouldn’t sue the school or the BSA, but the molester...
