For the genetic form of AD, there may also be another hope:

http://www.northstarstudy.com/
The participants in the Northstar study have been CURED- completely cured- of this genetic defect.

http://www.fiercebiotech.com/story/bluebirds-gene-therapy-20-weans-beta-thalassemia-patients-blood-transfusion/2014-06-14

For other diseases with a single gene origin, this may be a treatment option in the next 5-10 years. I wish it could be sooner, but our regulatory systems are antiquated.

What troubles me about all this is when someone claims to have a cure for something, someone else comes along & claims it’s not so or it doesn’t work. This seems to happen a lot.

I believe that a person who has nothing to lose should have the right to sign a waiver on an experimental drug that absolves everyone involved, blanket, period. But the system doesn’t work that way.

Just don’t test it on monkeys. They might get smart.

...

With all the breakthroughs for mice, I would think that one day they would rise up and rule the planet. World domination.

Agreed. I think this is an essential reform.

There are many bioethicists who think that such a practice would recapitulate the Tuskeegee Experiment on a large scale. IMO, they are elitist jerks, and should not stand in the way of a patient getting treatment that could prolong healthy life.

But then, I think the entire War on Drugs has been a catastrophic failure, so my views are not in the mainstream.

Only the thousands of people that have regained their life.

Coconut oil is also quite effective for many.

The only things that never work are the prescription garbage.

Look a little deeper, and you will see that you are very much in the mainstream.

Because they can’t sell it for $50/dose.

Namenda and Exelon have improved my 97 yo mother's function to the point that a person casually talking to her might not notice she has any problem at all. We do, of course, but she is considerably improved. The stuff is horribly expensive, however.

Your mother is way too old to have Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is a disease that hits people in their 40s and 50s. Senile dementia happens to the elderly, and can be from numerous causes, like nutritional deficiencies or improper diet.

Your mother is way too old to have Alzheimer’s.

That's most certainly NOT true, although she is too old to have what would be considered the early-onset form of the disease! Most Alz is not definitively diagnosed until autopsy if at all, and the condition is generally characterized as dementia without a cause specified.

Prevagen is only $50/month, and works for all sorts of memory and behavior issues.

Even helps kids get better grades in school, and reduces the frequency of migraines.
