This actually happened. Not sure of the wording of the message, or whether it was GW I or II, but our guys were warned by the JAGs that such messages would be hurtful and result in disciplinary actions. Hurtful. What the heck is a bomb if not hurtful?
Missed that in my classics AND Archaeology 101-102 . . . but I knew it had to be true. Human nature does not change!
I’ve got pictures of some 2000lb bombs and HARM missiles we “decorated” during the first gulf war. The Marine pilots always admired our handiwork, and sometimes wrote their own messages on the ordinance they knew wouldn’t come back to base with.
Don’t waste chalk. Just smear some bacon grease on the projectiles.
Saw a photo of an Abrams tank during gulf one. Neatly lettered on the turret was “Have Gun, Will Travel, Wire Rumsfeld, Washington DC”
