Not a bad film. It's B-movie roots show early on, and some suspension of disbelief is required here and there. Still, while it might not be Pork Chop Hill, Ryan and Aldo Ray give strong performances, and the movie really comes together in the last 45 minutes. 6.75/10

Ah! Vic Morrow. Before he made sergeant. And before he died in Vietnam.

That was bad.
I always liked Sgt. Saunders.

And, I thought my WWII combat wounded paratrooper dad and I
had seen every war movie made from the ‘40s thru the ‘60s.
Can’t recall this one. Aldo Ray? I wonder how many war
flicks between he and Richard Jaeckel?

Vic Morrow's career was just getting underway. He wasn't even 30 yet.
He was wonderful as the shell-shocked Cpl. He was so little boy like that you wanted to comfort him. Sgt. Saunders, OTOH, would not show pity.

I’ve always loved Morrow as the overzealous Little League coach in ‘The Bad News Bears’.
I’ve become a huge fan of his in the past two years or so. He was an exceptional actor and director.
I was only 6 when he and the children perished but it makes me very sad and heartbroken. I’ve seen the footage on YouTube and the fact that Landis walked free is infuriating. He should’ve been thrown in jail.

I know. Feb.14, 1929 to July 23, 1982.
He was 28 or about to turn 28 when this movie came out.
