All new microwaves will have a “charge” setting right next to the “popcorn” setting on the timer. /s

Now, if they could just do that with a car sized battery.

An Israeli company says it has developed technology that can charge a mobile phone in a few seconds and an electric car in minutes

They will look like slender vending machines. Insert credit card and you get thirty seconds of charging time for say $2.00 a pop. People will be lining up to get a quick charge - especially gum-snapping teenagers.

This new technology is not in the charger but in the battery. Charging a standard battery in 30 seconds with a new technology charger...equals fire.

To charge an electric car in a few minutes, how many hundreds of amps will be required to do that?

From the way it sounds....exactly what the charger puts out. The battery is sponge-like. But your point is valid. If there isn't some limiting circuitry in these new batteries. If not, they'll suck whatever a charger will throw them and the charger will fry.

The battery appears to be at least 5x the size of the phone. For a car, the battery would probably be as big as a semi truck trailer. Not very practical at this point, anyway.
