“Davy Crockett Day”

“An estimated 2,000 youngsters and their parents lined up along Jackson Street in downtown Batavia to enjoy the day's festivities. The Batavia Kresge's store became the city's ‘Davy Crockett headquarters,’ selling Crockett T-shirts and hats for $1 apiece, cap pistols for 69 cents, frontier bags for $2.98 and bill folds for 59 cents. You could buy a package of Davy Crockett cookies for 35 cents or enjoy a Crockett sundae for a quarter at the Kresge's soda fountain.”

I had a Hop Along Cassidy outfit out of some kind of suede-like material with fringe on the vest and skirt. It had a cowboy on a horse lassoing a calf and the rope motif went around to the back of the skirt and the vest too. I also had a holster with a six shooter, cowgirl hat and cowgirl boots. It was in the 50’s so I must have been about 5. I was going to be Dale Evans when I grew up so I could be married to Roy Rogers.

Isn’t the term “coonskin” offensive now?

I had an old, homemade one as a kid. Wish I still had it. It would go wonderfully with my baculum earrings.
