According to her, the fish was pulling her so fast that the pressure of the water on her arms kept her from raising her arms. If she could have done that she could have unhooked the reel from the harness she had on. I am talking about a BIG fish.
There was a hook on the fighting chair that attached the rod and reel to the chair. That is what we did on our boat, we didn't even have a harness.

Same with rays. One of most beautiful things I've experienced is seeing one swim over me when I was at about 40’.

Divers almost never have trouble with sharks. The noisy breathing gear scares them away and they don’t look appetizing. Surfers paddling a board look like a nice juicy seal from below.

Yes, I grew up in Florida at the beach every week. We always knew the sharks were out in the surf. I felt something like sandpaper rub up against my leg one day when I was out about shoulder deep. I got out of the water and never surfed again or went out beyond my knees. I still don’t.
Mr. GG2’s twin sister got bitten on the foot by a shark near Malibu pier when she was a teen. Had to be taken to the hospital for stitches. They are bad news.

I drew up plans for one using the guts out of an automatic center punch and a fiberglass chimney sweep rod with threaded ends but never got it built.
