Blondie loved the Ramones.
Thing is, you’re wrong.
Ramones are played at baseball games now. People like it.
They were quite melodic.

De gustibus non disputandum.
No arguing matters of taste.

The problem of course is that yesterday’s nonconformism becomes today’s styles, and then social rebels have to find another way to rebel.

Didn’t the Ramones say they were trying to create songs like 1960s bubblegum music?

I don’t judge music by “if it’s played on a jukebox”.
That’s crazy.
You are giving your opinion. Not facts.
Many people love the Ramones. Many musicians are influenced by them. I believe their music and influence will stand the test of time.
Again, giving your opinion is of course fine. But stating your opinions as fact is absurd.

Ouch. That cut me to the bone...har! So now I agree they were musical genious - not. Crap is crap no matter how you want to slice it. It may have been a moment in your life, but then I feel bad for you not knowing melodic music.
I grew up with Motown and the greatest R&B groups ever, so I know a little of about this music stuff, not to mention being a drummer and lead singer in bands. No, I didn't reach their level, so what? Later, I grew to love the Stones and their renditions of R&B classics and their own originals. The Beatles sucked.
Have fun listening to the Ramones. Music is what you feel. If you're about their songs, so be it.

Show me one song on a jukebox by the Ramones.
Definitely not my yardstick, but there's Disco on a jukebox.

"...and still consider it to be crude and unfocused."
That was my problem with the early punk movement. They were pretty much just noise and had NO "focus" for their sound. It was all about thrashing power chords while the lead singer wailed and complained. But then, that was their point. Sorry, I thought the Ramones sucked.

My husband and I were singing along to “Blitzkrieg Bop” a few days ago. Our youngest was amazed that Mommy & Daddy knew of such things,
Amazing talents who will always be missed.

The Beatles did suck, and Sid Vicious has nothing on you when it comes to angst.

But the Sex Pistols song about abortion, “Bodies” nails it. Ugly song for an ugly thing. I never heard it until they had a list of conservatives songs.

Yes, I know that Blondie was part of the original CBGB nite club back in the day. Okay, I could be wrong, but never heard a melodic song by the Ramones. Please direct me to one of their melodic hits.
If the song sounds melodic, as in vocal melody, I will apologize to all.

Actually, I used to be while playing drums and/or singing. Not so much now. Do you really care?

Punk arose as an alternative to the highly polished and over-produced music of the eighties - think Supertramp - and as such was deliberately rough and raw edged. I think The Clash did some great stuff.
