This article has nothing to do with this video.

The article addresses the notion that punching is not one of techniques taught to recruits at the California Highway patrol police academy. Not only are punching techniques taught at the academy but the rationale behind punching is addressed.

The officer in the video had a small range of options at his disposal when confronted with an irrational person who posed a danger to herself and others. His attempt to remove her peacefully was met with resistance, and given their proximity to moving traffic the officer's range of choices after that was limited.

People don't have the right to just wander around busy freeways in California and rational people recognize the danger involved with being that close to fast moving traffic. It sounds like you would have preferred the officer just chase her onto the freeway rather than making sure she stayed down the way he did.

You need to read it again.

We learned how to fight for our lives during advanced officer safety training. It doesn't happen often but officers can end up being attacked by someone who doesn't want to go to jail and will kill to avoid it. An ultimate fighting-looking brute of an instructor, Officer Ben Fillman, showed us how to stop an attack by using a open-hand jab to the head which is delivered with enough force to shake the assailant's brain. The resulting shock is intended to provide the officer with an opening to get control of the situation.

Again, This article has nothing to do with this video. The officer was NOT being attacked.

Fortunately, your opinion in this matter is irrelevant.

The fact that the California Highway patrol teaches close quarter punching techniques at its training academy is not a matter of opinion is it?

It’s too bad that your ticked because your link has no bearing on this particular video. Be ticked. I couldn’t care less.

You're petty. And wrong. Your article was premised on a cop being attacked. This one wasn't. You were looking for an excuse for his brutish behavior and didn't find one. Grow up and deal with it.

Tell me, do you know why she was in the median? Did her car break down? Don't know? The thug cop didn't ask either, did he.

show me where she attacked him.

I disagree with the premise that an "attack" (however you define that) must proceed an officer's punch. You'll have to show me where that requisite resides.

As with all California Highway Patrol use of force incidents, this one will be reviewed to determine whether the punches were proper or not.

From the article at the link you posted, it is predicated on the officer being attacked:

Now, in light of the article that you posted that predicates the use of a fist on the officer being attacked, show us where the lady attacked the officer.

Also, the article at the link says OPEN HAND jab, not a CLOSE FISTED PUNCH.

Well, now I know why she was on the freeway:
“Passing Driver David Diaz recorded the Tuesday incident and provided it to media outlets including The Associated Press. He told the AP in a phone interview Friday that he arrived as the woman was walking off the freeway. He said she turned around only after the officer shouted something to her.”

Dunkin Duhnuts officer called her back out there and escalated a situation.

So I got to the point about the open hand jab to the head.

There were elements of various martial arts taught when I went to school but, never was there a “technique” for going “street fighter”.

You would do anything to save yourself, granted. However, this sheep dip woman offered no resistance offensively and the 15 punches were not justified and in fact, only ended when another man came to his proximity, for assistance.

From the article at the link you posted, it is predicated on the officer being attacked:

In other words your premise is based on the written opinion of a non-expert reporter's interpretation of use of force or maybe his editor's...got it.

David Diaz is just one of many witnesses to the events that day. He’s one of the people who is heard laughing about the situation at the beginning of the video. He’s also one of the first people to contact the media about it. He has attention seeker written all over him.
