Also, note that since 1990, every time the WC was held in Europe, the US failed to make it out of their group, whereas every time it’s been held outside of Europe, the US has made it out. So that bodes well for us.
Mexico? Are you kidding me?
If the US beats Portugal this coming weekend, I think they’re guaranteed a place in the Round Of 16.
But I don’t envy their chances of reaching the final, unless the heavyweights crash and burn along the way.
They have a good team.
And since they’re playing in South America, they’re a dark horse.
They’re up against Brazil tomorrow.
I think the only way the US beats Portugal and not get in, is for Ghana to beat Germany, and then Germany beats the US by 5 or 6 goals, and Ghana beats Portugal.
Brazil beats Meh-Hee-Co 4-0.
Mexico beat one of the worst teams in the tournament, Cameroon, 1-0.
I think the latter is extremely unlikely. Germany can beat Ghana, it can beat the US but it won’t be a blowout and Portugal should beat Ghana.
Under Felipao, defense has been solid and at times aggressive (see
Confederations Cup), midfield better than under Menezes, and attacking ever better. Mexico better show up with its A++ game.
South Africa in 2010? They’re looking for revenge. But if they can’t hold off Brazil and claim a place in the Round Of 16, they’re going to be packing their bags early.
I believe the 4th referee controls the extra time allotment. The head ref then keeps count from there.
The little tournament is the biggest sports event on the planet, along with the Olympics.
Now, the SB, WS, NBA, NHL........there are sports few outside N America give a stuff about.
Curses on the US for letting Mexico in.
What we’ve learned so far....
Brazil is not the best team in this tournament.
It’s a Final....0-0.
I didn’t think Mexico had it in them. But they’ll still most likely need to beat Croatia to go through.
“Are you the delegate for the International Union of Allied Timekeepers.”
LOL If you’ve got a job going then yes - I just might be!
