In Columbia SC which is home, there is a start up called Wurst Wagon. A husband and wife outfit that I found by chance at some running event my wife went to.
I usually don’t care for sausage that much but I love theirs. The schnitzel is really good and the potato salad is some of the best.
They do a good business and stay mobile. They bought a van to outfit recently.

Guess Costco’s $1.50 dog was not worth a mention. Costco is an American success story. Yahoo can't be hailing that—even though Yahoo is in the same group.

Costco was pure genius to have their long POLISH sausage hot dog and a drink for $1.50....even more genius for not putting the price any higehr all these years....
back to hot dogs...Oscar Meyer had a hot dog called "New York Deli Style" last year which was heavenly but not sure they make them anymore...

Top two imho:
The Chicago dog using Vienna Beef frank and a Coney Island from either the Lafayette or American in Detroit (do either still exist?).

Yeah, Chicago is dogtown handsdown. My fav is Johnnie’s in Elmwood Park out west on North Avenue. And the gold medallions and hairy chests and Italian ice on a hot summer night add to the ambience.

My dad was from Chicago and I learned at an early age that a hot dog is allowed to have mustard - Plochman’s for a preference - and onion and relish and a pickle spear. Sliced tomato as an option. Celery salt as an option. Nothing else. According to family legend he threw out one of my sister’s boyfriends for asking for ketchup.

Vienna Beef rules. I cant find many places in Atlanta that serves them but if I do they charge a hell of a lot for them.

When I was a kid in Panama City, FL the lunch room served hot dogs maybe once a month. I was in the first grade and they had a sauce you could put on your hot dog.
It was the only thing they had to add and it was pretty good. I actually thought it was a special sauce they made until one of the other kids told me they just mixed the mayonnaise, mustard and Ketchup together to make the line move faster.

America's Best Hot Dogs
America's best hot dogs are the ones served with a baseball game being played a short distance in front of them. Doesn't have to be MLB, either. Sounds corny and cliched, and I don't know why it's so, but it is. Maybe something about sunlight and open air enhances the flavor - I've noticed that picnics also bring out the flavor.
Goat cheese and other fancy accompaniments might work, but are not necessary.

Best home-made chili dogs on earth:
Use Hormel's canned chili without beans and bbq the dogs and add grated cheese or"
put a slice or two of great bacon on the dog sandwich and a very healthy batch of Cheese Whiz...and maybe s splash of Dijon mustard to kick it up a notch.
