The Chiffons. The song was written by the husband/wife team of Goffin/Carol King (like most of the Monkees songs except for “I’m a Believer” which was written by Neil Diamond).
The Chiffons also did “He’s So Fine” also renowned as the plaintiff song in the now-infamous plagiarism case against George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord”.
The Chiffons also recorded and released “My Sweet Lord”—probably as a way of saying, “come and get me” to George Harrison.
Never thought about He’s So Fine and ‘My Sweet Lord’ but they sure do sound alike.
