This does reflect my opinion. Lines are now open for comment.
Today's thoughts:
- The list was compiled by AFI in 2005, so newer movies are not included. What's missing from this list?
- Check the link for quotes #51-#100 to see if your favorite is included. (Yes, ". . . and don't call me Shirley" is included at #79)
- Six of AFI's Top 100 Movie Quotes (and five of the top 50) come from Casablanca. Nine of the Top 100 quotes come from Humphrey Bogart movies.
- FR's most used movie quote, Capt. Renault's "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here' didn't make the Top 100 list. FR's first or second most-quoted movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail ("A moose once bit my sister"; "I got better"; African and European sparrows and coconuts; the Frenchman at the Castle; the 'girls' at Camelot; "Bring out your dead!/I'm not dead yet!"; shrubberies; the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch; "It's only a flesh wound!"; Dennis the peasant; etc.) didn't make the list of the Top 100 quotes.
What's missing from the list?

Anything from
A Man For All Seasons but particularly this one:
William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!
Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
William Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!
Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!
