i don't understand why the tires are failing on the INSIDE of the tire... the outside, sure, but the inside???

so it's more camber than the sidewalls can compensate for when they flex? OK, i'll buy that

On the ovals, the camber on the tires on both sides are adjusted so the outside of the left side and the inside of the right side tires are in contact most of the time. In the turns the roll of the body will make the tires flat with the track where they need the most grip. Since the right-front takes the most abuse, the inside edge that has the most contact time takes the most wear.

yes, but like nascarnation said, they must be running MUCHO camber cause i've never seen failures like this before let alone the fires, unless the compound is part of the problem also hence the engineers getting involved

I think the difference in rf tire life between a great setup and a fair setup is pretty big maybe 10 laps. And nobody wants to pit early cause you risk losing 2 laps.

I think the combination of rain and a soft tire compound (my guess) has something to do with it. Blobs of rubber buildup, and some burning when they fall off indicate the compound may be too soft. Maybe the rain making the track more green was enough to do this.

setup and strategy are everything, but i'm still amazed at the condition of the tires though... i've never seen this many tires with the cords coming apart like this, not saying it hasn't happened, just i've never seen it

makes sense since the pieces of rubber burning on pit lane were prolly burning marbles coming off the tire
