If they really are a board of directors, then it’s customary for such people to be compensated in accordance with the bottom line of the company they are directing.
With that in mind, Congressional pay should be tied to the budget deficit/surplus. Give them some base salary. Subtract or add a set percentage of any budgetary surplus or deficit that the government runs. I think you’d see deficit spending end pretty darn quickly if that were done.
I actually agree: Term limits and better pay. The conservative movement loses their budding collegiate talent to better paying vocations everyday. Make it a little more lucrative and some great conservative political talents just might stay in the fray after college.
I ain’t buying every congress critter a house in the DC area so (s)he can lobby congress from the floor after getting voted out of office.
