At 500 knots the surface of the ocean will play the part of the wall quite nicely.
Stewie on phone: C'm-o-on.... lemme i-i-n-n!
Co-pilot: "Sorry, Charlie!"

First thing I picked up on. What's that saying about loose lips?
“CALLER: I think you need to have an American citizen to be a command pilot of an American carrier. Right now they’re not. You don’t need to be an American citizen to be in command of an American carrier.”
Or to be president, either.
With the cabin pressurization turned off, there's not enough oxygen available at FL450 to remain conscious for very long and probably not enough to live for much longer, depending on one's age and physical condition.
The oxygen concentration is about 21% at sea level and only 6.8% at 29,000'. I don't know the percentage at altitudes greater than that or what is required to live.
Regarding Payne Stewart's Lear, they probably froze to death in their sleep if the oxygen deprivation didn't kill them first.
He could have refused to fly with him. Captain is the lord of his aircraft.
The Boeing 777 pilot in this interview says there is 20 minutes of oxygen for everyone. The bottom line is that it didn’t ‘t happen as some of these wild-eyed conspiracists are saying ... :-) ...
He chose to be Lord of the cockpit instead.
The caller is right, there's no magic about going to 45k in terms of pressurization -- it would throw off the cabin altitude schedule (bring the cabin pressure up a little) but would not automatically cause the cabin to depressurize.
45k seems more consistent with a struggle than a deliberate attempt to disable the passengers.
The crew can control the cabin just fine to any elevation up to the current altitude of the airplane, with just a couple of switches, very quickly. So why go to 45k and depressurize? It's overkill, to the point of seriously jeopardizing the hijackers, even with 100% oxygen. Which is why unpressurized aircraft don't fly above 25k in normal operations (yes, that's with breathing 100% oxygen).
What altitude? Malaysian radar claims it went to 45000. That should not be accepted at face value because the kind of radar needed to accurately determine 45000 is not sitting on Malaysian soil. Yes, without O2, the passengers pass out after their emergency masks run out. The F/As have walk around bottles that could last for a long time. You don’t climb to FL450 to kill people, when FL350 can do it just as well.
Dang right. And of everyone on his aircraft too. ;)
Sure would be a quick way to incapacitate the entire aircraft if you were a hi-tech thief or a hijacker flying for allah.
You’ve been watching too many of those movies ... :-) ...
He meant for the passengers. The system is meant to keep them breathing until the airplane can descend to a lower altitude.
Exactly, same as I was thinking.
It might as well be a solid wall.
A few feet of water will stop a .50 caliber bullet at 3,000 fps.

Either it was stolen or it crashed. I'm just thinking through how it could have happened.
I still don't buy it.
That’s what I was talking about, too ... the passengers ... as that’s what the question was about, that was directed at me.
>So what will people like you, pilots, what will officials, airlines now tell them going forward? You try to learn from every incident.<
.
Be careful not to hire members of the ROP regardless of nationality. Hell, we have had American-born jihadists fighting US Forces in Afghanistan and we have American jihadists in Somalia right now.
An even more troubling scenario is to have muzzies flying or being in command of nuclear-armed US military weaponry.
