I think you are right. In the two weeks I have had it on, I am already seeing re-runs.
Read the book, I forget the author, titled Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. Told from the perspective of the blue jackets that fought it. Absolutely rivetng.
I could not believe the courage of those American Captains. Those little destroyers and destroyer escorts attacking a Japanese fleet full of cruisers and even the Yamato.
The truly amazing thing to me is how effective they were. They put up such a fight that the Japanese thought they were fighting a much larger force and eventually retreated.
James D. Hornfisher. He also wrote “Neptune’s Inferno” which details US Navy actions at Guadalcanal. A great read.
Oh that former Miltary Channel it is good
This happened often even when it was called the Military Channel. The same program would appear about 6 or 8 times per week (sometimes during the day or night and often 2 times in a single evening for the benefit of those in the Pacific Time Zone).
My late father-in-law fought in that battle. His escort carrier was blown apart by surface gunfire, the only aircraft carrier in WWII sunk by a surface ship.
He spent two days in the water, wounded, before being rescued. Yes, incredible bravery.
Yes those guys deserve real respect. They were not only brave, they were effective. Their courage was not wasted, they saved possibly a huge number of Americans.
If that Japanese fleet had hit the unprotected landings it would have been a massacre.
The network used to be better. For about the last year it’s steadily been going to shows like the ones you mentioned. Ones that have only a slight or no connection to their channel’s title. Looks to me that in a year, the network will have about as much to do with the military/ American heroes as the History Channel now does history.
On Dish TV its on channel 195.The same location as the Former Military Channel.
This month they started calling it AHC from the Military Channel.
I haven't had cable/satellite for ... at least 15 or so years.
That’s how I get my WWII fix
I watched AHC all day yesterday and never once searched the guide to see what else was on.
