I have not done the “challenge” either, however, do some Planks regularly....it IS amazing how much it challenges your whole body....got to 2 minutes the last time....and I’m 62!!

If something is too heavy for me to lift, I will get help. I can’t see going to the gym in hopes that the skill acquired from deadlifting a barbell will transfer to that box that’s been in the middle of my living room floor for six months. Should I practice walking around with the barbell? Every time I’ve ever picked up something heavy off the floor, I’ve had to carry it somewhere. The best thing I can say for the deadlift is that it’s not as bad as the back squat.

Using your logic there's no reason to ever workout for any reason whatsoever since you can just get help.

Deadlifts aren't the only effective game in town for this task either. You can also work with Atlas Stones. That skill translates very well to what you describe. I've done that, and it's an excellent workout. However, basic deadlifts are terrific for building leg, back, and posterior chain strength and mobility.

Should I practice walking around with the barbell? Every time I’ve ever picked up something heavy off the floor, I’ve had to carry it somewhere.

Why not? Do some lunge walks with that thing, or even just walk from point A to point B with it on your back or in the front rack position. I've done that, too.

Should I practice walking around with the barbell? Every time I’ve ever picked up something heavy off the floor, I’ve had to carry it somewhere.

And you once again expose your ignorance on the topic. Squats are fantastic for your body. If you don't know what you're doing and try to show off in a gym, you'll get hurt doing them. Get some coaching and work up in weight. It's not hard, it just takes doing it.

I have been asked to just play solo acoustic guitar this Sunday, so no bass cabinet to schlepp.

Just the PA System hahaha!

Using your “logic”, people who don’t do deadlifts can’t ever pick anything at all up off the floor.

No one movement is essential to training your muscles. Train long enough to have to work around a few injuries and you’ll know what I mean. Keep doing crossfit (just noticed your tagline) or football or rugby, and I have no doubt that you will get those injuries. If it’s your recreation/sport/passion, go for it. Compete. Win. Good Luck. Is it your idea of exercise for the long-term? Re-examine. It’s a matter of where it fits into your life.

I get a very effective workout without deadlifts or squats or kipping (a/k/a “cheating don’t count”) pullups, or power cleans. So, I get a great resistance workout for the entire body, and I haven’t ever had trouble lifting anything off the floor except for when I injured my back doing squats 20 something years ago after injuring my back doing deadlifts 30 years ago, and I’m making steady strength and muscular gains in my mid 40s. Why in the world would I do squats or deadlifts or any of the other injury-prone movements, which caused harm in my teens and 20s? And I’m getting results spending a total of less than an hour a week in the gym.

Why should I do it your way when my way seems to be working so well? I’ll show my “ignorance” right after I don’t look and feel good. Again, why do it your way when my way works? Yeah, see you at the box, or at physical therapy.

30 minutes including warmup, 8 total sets, once every 4-5 days, two alternating total-body workouts. Well, you do have to actually work them REALLY hard. Like to failure, for real, really. If you have anything left for a second set, you did it wrong.

Enjoy your WOD tomorrow. I’m going hiking with friends.

Again, why do it your way when my way works?

Two minutes! Good for you! I am still working up to that point. But yes, I can feel the difference from my hips up. The quick results are very motivating.

Considering that most of the Worship & Praise music that I write is either Blues or heavy metal, you MIGHT be right about that! hahahaha
