Aieeee! Sunken Civ can attest that I have been predicting this to happen on this website for years.

I have no idea why I chose the mammoth instead of say the auroch or saber=toothed tiger, but there ya are.

It will be a lot of work to just produce a few passenger pigeons. Apparently they needed a flock of at least 1,000 just to generate the sexual excitement and hormones need to make breeding take place. They would probably do well in the south where they were common, and be a good game source of food. They had their niche, and anything that has occupied it since can probably accommodate a few PPs.

With a little genetic engineering, we could miniaturize them for warm, fuzzy house pets. On a cold winter’s night, just throw another mammoth on the bed!

A little bigger, they could be used as working companions, hitched between the handles of a large wheelbarrow or such.

Slightly larger, but still “small” could be used to replace peddle-cabs, or to draw carriages, just to spite DeBlasio.

Full sized ones could be engineered to give high quality wool, and be sheared twice a year.

The possibilities are endless.

I read somewhere that nature abhors a vacuum, if that is so and other species have filled the gap once dominated by the carrier pigeon, what would be the effect on the other species? Mass extinctions of the species that filled the gap left by the carrier? Or maybe a replay in real life of the the classic movie ‘The Birds’?

As soon as man realizes he is not God, we might all be better off. Although the idea of cloning Marylin Monroe might have merit.

The first time Ben Novak saw a passenger pigeon, he fell to his knees and remained in that position, speechless, for 20 minutes

A bit much, dontcha think?
