“Lemme get this straight, there were two Danish zoos who needed to get rid of a girraffe to prevent inbreding and rather than trading with eachother they both decided to kill the animal? I am not going to get as upset as some on FR but it certainly seems wasteful. Im gonna go out on a limb and guess both these zoos are run by the government.”

Im gonna go out on a limb and guess that you know nothing about the European breeding program.

The giraffe was food for the lions. Other animals have to die to ensure those lions eat a healthy diet. There is no real ethical difference between using a cow for food and using a giraffe. Of course, you are entitled to your opinion that a giraffe in a zoo is a higher form of life than a sheep or a cow that has grown up on a farm, but my own humble opinion is that there is no rational basis behind it, only an emotional one based on the kind of ridiculous anthropomorphising of animals that PETA engages in, but at least you can say of PETA that they view ALL animals this way, so they are at least consistent in their beliefs...

you’re mistaken greatly.

forever, man and as extension, societies, have determined how they will decide what animals will be pets, food, etc. some overlap. some don’t.

all i’m saying is it wasn’t critical to kill the giraffe, they could have traded it with another zoo that was looking for a different male to reduce interbreeding issues.

and you continue to fail to deal with the overall point i’ve made since my first post, the fact that whenever something is a problem, the solution is to kill it, discard it like its nothing. just an inanimate object. throwaway attitudes towards living things spill over into looking at people as disposable problems when we don’t want to take care of them anymore because we have no use for them and they’re just burdens.

proverbs says you an tell a lot about a person by how they treat their animals. killing them because they’re an inconveniece isn’t a high moral quality.

and since we probably won’t agree on anything just save us both time and just go our separate way.

we make distinctions between food animals and those not for food.

All animals are food.

Google "Donner Party".
