They'll never get out of the oldies rut! And they'll argue about it. Using predictable arguments and worn cliches. Maybe it is a my-fabulous-youth-rut. I tell ya, pop music, the main sewer of it, sucked then as much as it sucks now. Maybe we oughta set up threads, I think they're called 'caucus' where no arguments are allowed, like that daily Vision(ary) Joel Osteen thread. Heck, let them have their Fabian and Iron Butterfly masterpieces of musical art. Just leave the rest of us out of your worship of three chord mediocrity.

In the meantime, start by checking out the David Wax Museum and Red Wanting Blue.

People who complain about the state of today's music don't know how to use the internet. There is more variety of every kind of music available than at any point in history.

The popular music on the radio has almost always sucked. Who the hell listens to the radio anymore?

Just found these guys the other day. Fantastic soul/blues/funk stuff.

Aabaraki Dance-Shee

Or new bluegrass:

I See Hawks in L.A. - Good and Foolish Times - Live at McCabe's

And if you like Dropkick Murphy, check out The Real McKenzies:

What a fun idea for a ping list, even if you get a lot of drunken cat calls to play “Freeee Bird!”

I wasn’t familiar with Dave Alvin, and now I’ve learned I like him a lot. Thanks!

Yes, please add me to your ping list.

I wouldn't exactly say he's obscure, but I'm always surprised at how many people stuck in a classic rock rut are unfamiliar with Joe Bonamassa. I'm going to see him next month. So excited!

Donna the Buffalo has been around for quite a while. I love Tara Nevins!

My favorite band these days is Lambchop. Also into Alejandro Escovedo, Buddy Miller, folk, country, bluegrass, country rock, indie rock, classic soul. There is so much great music out there.
