Amanda Knox Found Guilty of Murder By Italian Court

Amanda Knox was found guilty of murder today by an Italian court, the latest twist in a murder case that goes back to 2007.

The verdict reached by the two judges and six jurors came after several hours of deliberations at the Florence courthouse.

The judge sentenced Knox to 28 years in prison. Her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and co-defendant was sentenced to 25 years.

Two Italian judges and six jurors began deliberations earlier today. If Knox and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are found guilty, the court is also expected to pronounce a prison sentence.

The prosecutor has asked for a 26 prison term for the murder for Knox and Sollecito, plus another four years for Knox on a related libel conviction.

This is the fourth time Knox faced a verdict on the 2007 murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher while they were roommates in Perugia, Italy. Knox, now 26, and Sollecito, 29, were convicted in 2009.

After serving four years in prison they were freed in 2011 when an appeals court threw out the murder conviction. But Italy's supreme court ordered another appeals court to rehear the case. Kercher's sister Stephanie and brother Lyle were in the courtroom for the verdict.

Knox, who is sporting a new, short haircut, remained in her hometown of Seattle for the latest trial. Sollecito was in court today earlier today, but was not present for the verdict....

As I understand it, her initial conviction was overturned on appeal. So one could as easily say that, upon review, she was acquitted. ACQUITTED.

Don't know how it works in Italia, but in America when a conviction is overturned on appeal, it doesn't mean the accused is acquitted.

It simply puts the case back to square one, and the prosecution has to decide whether to file new charges.

There may be exceptions to this general rule.

Do you know something nobody else does?

No, I just know how to read and I actually read the evidence.

Just a question: Are you such a bleeding heart about crime in this country? Do you think Mumia Abu Jamal, Charles Manson, Robert Chambers are innocent victims? 90% of the people in jail for murder in the U.S. have less evidence. Are you working to get those people off too? I doubt you'd be on her side if this happened in the U.S.

Forensics showed more than one person killed her.

No it didn't. It only showed that possibly two separate knives could have been involved -- two knives wielded by the same person more than likely.

Wow. I assume on a regular basis you are smarter than this. If Meredith wasn't sexually assaulted, why was Rudy Guede CONVICTED of her sexual assault. If you don't even know the basic facts of the case, why are you commenting? Hey, why not say Meredith is still alive?

Try getting your news from sources that aren't ultra let wing.

She saw the body without clothes on and assumed that she had been sexually assaulted.

If she saw the body she was the culprit. When the door was broken down Rafael and Amanda left the scene. They never saw her.

Turns out Italian justice system operates on quite different principles from ours. Trials, appeals, etc. don’t correlate exactly.

You don’t understand the Italian justice system. If a person is convicted, they get two free appeals. Until after those appeals, they don’t even consider the conviction final. It’s not our system, but is actually more pro-defendant than our system.

OK, so according to you everything she wrote there is complete nonsense, the evidence the media reported was all made up as well and Italy for some reason just has it in for this girl who had absolutely nothing to do with it. Italy, not Iran or North Korean, but Italy one of our allies. Give me a break. You think Coulter is what I am basing this all on? The evidence she mentions I read from countless other sources. The fact is you are one more zombie hypnotized because the girl is good looking and of course you mention absolutely nothing at all that shows she is innocent nor counter any of the evidence against her.

No, you stop the projection. You claim that because I think this woman who there is a lot of evidence against is guilty, I am a woman hater. Do you work for MSNBC?

LEBANON: D'ALEMA, ITALY HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE PART IN 5+1 ON I
(AGI) - Berlin, Aug. 26 - After having a protagonist role for peace in Lebanon Italy asks to take part in the 5+ 1 group that negotiates with Iran on nuclear. Foreign minister, Massimo D'Alema in an interview to "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" asks a place near to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. "We are Iran's most important commercial partners with Germany and we are pledged in Lebanon with Hezbollah. So we have the right to be included in the negotiation with Iran. The goal is not a new conflict but talks aimed at preventing Iran from having an atomic bomb, he said. Italy searched for a greater G8 involvement in the negotiation with Iran but it remained excluded from the 5 plus 1, the group that started a negotiation with Tehran offering incentives in exchange for the suspension of the uranium enrichment program. This exclusion was due to the fact that Rome was not part of the European trio (France, Germany and UK) that had tried the first mediation with Tehran and represented the EU in the 5 plus 1. D'Alema remembered that the United Nations and the EU had not a role in the Iraqi crisis, and warned that the new opportunity in Lebanon could not be missed now. "It is a very difficult mission full of unknown points but it is worth pledging or the only alternative would be a new burst of war" he said. The foreign minister, was sceptical on the possibility of a new UN resolution for the mission in Lebanon asked by the US. "I'm sceptical about it, because in these situations they always open long negotiations. The strategic plan is clear and the resolution was completed defining the rules of engagement. If they will make a new resolution soon I agree with them but the most important thing is getting there as soon as possible (In Lebanon)" he said.

Thank you for that information.

So if the footprints reacted to luminol but weren't blood, then they were fruit juice or bleach, which react to luminol?

Perhaps a size 37 shoe stepped in fruit juice. Perhaps a size 37 shoe stepped in bleach - a cleaning agent.

And I appreciate the information on the knife. That's new - and came out only in this third trial.

Thank you. We have idiots on this thread who think that evidence was all made up God knows why. As if if Italy has suddenly turned in some country run under Sharia law. It’s amazing isn’t it how good looking people get so much sympathy in this world. Same kind of crap went on with the good looking serial killers like Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, even though the evidence was absolutely, utterly overwhelming people STILL insisted they were innocent!!

Correct. As I fessed up to in post 187.

Their system doesn’t line up with ours, but we tend to assume it does and jump to inapplicable conclusions.

BTW, any country with a conviction rate well over 90% doesn’t have much right to criticize other countries for their supposed kangaroo trials.

Amanda Knox said she witnessed Patrick Lumumba raping and murdering Meredith. It was later proved he couldn’t have done it. Why does she get a pass from you about this? Can I say you murdered and raped someone and you will be cool with it?
