That is indeed what I was implying by my somewhat clumsily worded comment.

Thank You for your clarification! :-)

I tested at 133 on SB5 and over 1300 on the SATs but was denied acceptance to Mensa. There are several IQ tests. On which one did you test at 132?

Definitely fewer cops required, not sure to 1/3. A lot of money would be saved in tossing the pensions.

Fewer cops, NO union protection, and use the money saved for prosecutors and prisons.

The current system has cops catching a guy, and he's back on the street on a plea bargain. Change the rules so that the criminal only gets one plea bargain. The next time, he WILL go to trial, and if convicted WILL stay in prison until he's too old and feeble to commit any more crimes.

Martial law doesn't have to be called "martial law" to actually, legally be martial law.

Correct. When you have heavily armed troops (it doesn't matter if they are Regular Army or LAPD; if they are carrying M-4's or heavier, they are troops, not police any more) tossing aside the civilian-law requirements of warrants and probable-cause, ordering citizens to obey at gunpoint, then it's martial law regardless of how it's called.

You may be right that the top photo was shopped.

But the second photo is obviously not the source. Look at the color of the tapes.

Nope. Martial law has nothing to do with actions of cops or military.

It is a suspension of normal law, habeas corpus, etc. that makes the actions of the cops and military that you describe legal.

If martial law is not in place, the cops and military can still do such things, but their actions aren’t legal.

IOW, martial law nothing to do with what is done, only with its legal status. The courts are typically closed, and offenders can be tried by military tribunals, not civilian courts.

If the State refuses to prosecute an act, then the act is effectively legal.

The point is that martial law is a condition.

Cops, soldiers and many other groups may be able to break the law and get away with it, but that doesn't make what they do legal.

Sorry, first sentence should have read.

The point is that martial law is a legal condition.

Cops, soldiers and many other groups may be able to break the law and get away with it, but that doesn't make what they do legal.

"A difference which makes no difference is no difference at all" -- William James.

The operational definition of "being legal" could be said to be "Doing this will not bring punishment from the State down upon the people who do it".

Make some large % of pay conditional on there being
no “wrong door” raids, no pursuit shootouts such as this
one in the whole precinct or maybe the whole force.

Your neighbor needs some education. ....
Time was, no one would call the police for an
unattended child.
Your response was exemplary. I was holding my
breath to learn what the outcome was

The unattended child was also a neighbor, and you are right. The whole thing could have been handled “in house” without calling the SWAT TEAM. LOL.

Anyway, the Robo brought the child back to her apartment and all is well. It was quite comical to see the little girl in her sponge bob pj’s and beaded cornbraids walking hand-in-hand with what looked like a stormtrooper. :-)

Lynn-Dah-The-Dawg is safe at my feet.
