Good on the Waldorf-Astoria to give them that rate. Maybe there will be some folks on there honeymoon who will decide to spend the $799 in hopes of getting big savings 2078 when the rooms are $39,000/night.
‘What cost $15.75 in 1948 would cost $152.32 in 2013’

Nope. You get what the market will bare. There are a lot of people running around with a lot more wealth than sense. Unfortunately, a lot of them are spending Taxpayer dollars.
We’re talking about NYC here.
Well, the Waldorf isn’t at the pinnacle of the hospitality world for nothing.
The good PR here is worth way more than the $799 room rate.
Obviously some prices go up more than others and some times prices go down. In the early 80’s a PC could cost thousands, the newfangled “internet” might cost $5 an hour, even though it could take hours to download a whole newspapers worth of articles.

Yeah! Someone has got it right (although it should have been bear not “bare”, but we are all of us human).
Another thing to consider is we may be comparing apples and oranges. Amenities and standard services years ago may be very differrent than today. We see this sort of thing all the time when papers compare the cost and efficiencies of say the Model “T” to today’s vehicles; they are very different animals and no one would want to drive a “T” in lieu of a top of the line car of today, other than for fun, or to go to the Astoria 66 years later.
Also, I am certain taxes, licenses, permits, etc. are far more expensive today than 66 years ago.
Not to mention to cost of labor (unions), employee benefits, energy, etc. . .
During times of prosperity, luxury goods (sea front property) appreciate more than necessities (bread or milk.)
OK, you got me on this. An extra investment in FR. I just couldn’t pass this appeal for decency without responding with something more than just words. This is a great challenge to keep our thoughts on worthwhile matters. Thanks!

If you think that's bad just give the new mayor some time. I can't think of a group of people more deserving of what they are about to receive.
I love that verse! It makes one stop and think. I’m often guilty of needing to read it.
The room is still $15.75 a night. Have to include $600 per night in taxes and $160 per night parking fee.
Indeed. This is good PR and good business. The best of both! Sweet story too.
Hope the tickers hold out.
I thought the Waldorf-Astoria was in Queens. My friend lives in Astoria, Queens.
Don't laugh. I live in Minneapolis, you know, a very cold Des Moines...
