“Some members of Congress have been considering the creation of “Elvis Presley Day” on January 8, commemorating the birthday of the legendary entertainer. “
One of congresses more important jobs.

Obama would veto it any way. Another white guy.

Keep him on a Postage Stamp. Special days should commemorate great leaders, not Pop Culture icons.

Meanwhile the Obama Administration seeks to eradicate his fan base.

In other news this morning Obama accidentally drank water from the fountain of youth. A positive side effect though is he was found to be more logical.

Elvis didn't give us the wonderful EPA.

"Elvis Presley would be celebrating his 78th birthday on January 8th, 2013." So that makes this year "79".
(Wow, that means next year will be the "big 8-0"!)

I work at a nursing home and we have an Elvis impersonator who comes each year and the residents love him. Most have dementia but once they see the guy and hear the music, they are 16 again! It brings tears to my eyes watching their enjoyment.

I must say that the hour long tour I took of Graceland was very interesting and I'm glad I did it.On the bus back to the parking lot I sat next to two guys from South Korea who flew over just to see Graceland.
Yikes!

Two things...#1:
Most have dementia but once they see the guy and hear the music, they are 16 again!
Hang on a minute...I like Elvis and *I* don't have dementia! I mean...sometimes I forget where I live but *that* doesn't mean anything. ;-)
#2
It brings tears to my eyes watching their enjoyment.
Your post reminds me of a story I saw a year or two ago.It was about an old man living in a nursing home who,for a long time, had appeared depressed, confused and withdrawn.Someone had the idea of putting some of his favorite songs from 50+ years ago onto an MP3 player and have him listen to them through headphones (I guess his hearing was bad too).Almost immediately his face lit up,he began to smile and snap his fingers to the beat of the music (I think it was jazz). The transformation was miraculous!

I lived in the Graceland neighborhood for many years. Thousands come from out of country and state, especially for the birthday and death week. It is insane.
