Us old-school field staffers call you FOKs, for Fucking Obama Kids.

This is mostly because we don’t know wtf to do with VAN either. But you will get this: I work for a nonprofit, hired under HAVA to do minority outreach work. I am mandated to increase voter turnout. I asked for their database. They do not have one. They don’t know who their vols are, they don’t have previous turnout numbers, they had no idea they could buy voter rolls, and they are kind of confused as to why I would want to track contacts. 11/15/13 2:17pm

At least you have NGP. In ‘06 I worked OH-15, and we had Sage.

We put their logo on a dartboard because their servers kept overloading the last three weeks. They had apparently failed to realize that people would be heavily using their databases during GOTV, so data entry took ten people six hours instead of taking five people three hours. It was brutal. 11/15/13 2:24pm

Where do you work from? How’s OFA doing? I have been kind of disconnected from the ground because I quit working after my husband came home and all my friends are working for PACS and at the state level now. 11/15/13 2:34pm

If your “hard times” are job related, let me know.

I hope the IRS sees this, but I can guess that she is an obozo lover, so she’ll skate.

The money consists of gifts to her, right?

That means no tax impact, unless gifts from any one donor in any tax year are over $14k, and even then, the tax burden falls on the donor! Is that nuts or what?

She claims her name is Lillian Walther Tirado and she lives in Cedar City Utah.

From a page entitled "Political Resources - Southern Utah University":

Perhaps an email to the R might be productive. I would be sure to include a link to the gofundme, along with the current total, to refresh her memory, should it be necessary.

In the minutes of a redistricting committee, we find the following germ of political wisdom:

Ms. Linda Tirado, Southern Utah Young Democrats, commented that population centers need to be placed in one district. She explained that voting precincts need to be separate for rural and urban communities.

Hmm. I think I agree with that ... I dunno about precincts, but congressional districts, sure!

And then there's that essential Progressive need to get the low information voters to the polls ... And who should volunteer at my.barackobama.com, but our heroine:

On July 16th, supporters will join a national day of action dedicated to voter registration. We’ll be doing our part in Iron County by tabling at The Renaissance Fair. We need you and your neighbors to come out and join us. Bring a clipboard if you have one. My Late Mother always said “some people are better off than you and some people are worse of than you, that’s life”.

She also told me you don’t go around telling everyone your business. Bragging or complaining about your station in life is not classy. Other people have their own problems.

The Woman in this article is no better than the guy on the corner with the cardboard sign. You know, the one you hand a McDonalds Job Application to.

Boo friggin hoo, delay going to school and save your money. When you have enough money saved up, go finish your education. How come “choice” only counts when Women murder their Babies in the Womb?

WTH is wrong with people? Did they miss the “Common Sense” lessons their Parents were supposed to teach them? Judging by the results of the last two Presidential Elections, I already know the answer.

You help people that can't help themselves, not people who won't help themselves. If these are your friends, maybe you should get some other friends together and buy them a good working vehicle.

Is Charity a lost concept nowadays?

There is no “contempt” from people here against the working poor. My Parents were the working poor, as were most of my Aunts and Uncles.

As a Child, we had NOTHING. My Father and Mother both worked and they lived in squalor. They had Rats as big as Cats running down the hallway of the Tenement. My Mother had Pleurisy because the dampness in the basement two room apartment the four of us lived in. You wanted Hot Water, you heated up a big cast iron container. You couldn't turn the tap and get it. Shit happens, you deal with it. For God's sake, we could all have been born in Bangladesh, yet here we are, geez. I resent your accusations it's as simple as that...

It’s almost always down to a lack of preparation or a lack of focus on the right problem. The best way to tell is that they don’t want to hear what went wrong. They don’t want to learn from the mistake, they just want a way out.
We work with a lot of families that are “down on the luck” and none of them want to hear about the cause. So they just repeat every month.
For example, they come to use because the power is getting cut off. The problem is not your light bill, it’s your income. So they pay their cell phone bill and their credit card bill but not the light bill because a church will pay the light bill. There is a thin line between compassion and enabling.
Hard times come to everyone. Some are just better prepared than others. What can you(corporate you, not you specifically) do to better prepare for the hard times?

“I was always raised to believe that the bad decisions come before the poor.”

So, you reject the notion that fate, or God, or just random circumstances can cut a person off at the knees?

Yep. There are some wonderful FReepers, good souls who will sympathize and offer significant help, like 2ndDivisionVet. But there are others who confuse being conservative with being heartless, people who will blame you for whatever happened to make you struggle. Whether it was a job loss, a catastrophic illness, divorce, a death in the family, a sick child--it's your fault, and you should not have allowed that event to take place. You should have seen it coming.

You'll notice that it's not even permitted to say, "Bad things can happen to good people" or "Honest hard-working conservatives can run into bad luck and slip down the socio-economic ladder." Even if you're not asking for pity or a handout, you'll be looked at with suspicion.

As I said elsewhere on this thread, I believe that some people are very threatened by the idea that any of us can have a disaster fall on our heads. Because the implication of this is that if it can happen to you, through no fault of yours, it could conceivably happen to anyone, including them. That's a pretty worrying concept and a challenge to faith. The idea is especially threatening to those who have worked their way from humble origins to prosperity. So if you say that you've fallen on hard times, yes, they're going to accuse you of doing something wrong.

I agree that there are many holes in the story. Her supposed schedule is nonsense, I don’t believe it, and there are several other leaps of logic.

I also found your post very eloquent - very powerful writing. Perhaps you should consider doing some articles. The success of this unconvincing piece suggests that more could be done by better writers ...
