Unfortunately, the White girl who checked "Asian" because her test indicated that she was 2% East Asian may not understand how affirmative action actually works.

The National Geographic test will tell you about mitochondrial DNA AND whether you have Neanderthal genes. I was THRILLED to learn of my descent from the brow-endowed, for whom I have always had a soft spot in my heart.

Except for a handful of extremely isolated populations, very few of us are pure anything. Even a casual reading of world history reveals why--people travel, often to places you might think unlikely, and they leave their DNA behind.

For many white people whose families lived in the south for a very long time, having some Indian ancestors is commonplace, just as one example.

Devotees of "race purity"--white and black--are likely in for surprises if they take a close look at their DNA.

Fortunately for the rest of us, we are so much more than our pedigrees.

My great grandfather was injured in a farming accident and paralyzed from the waist down. My Great Uncle Gilbert and my Grandmother were conceived after this accident.

My Great Uncle Gilbert apperantly embraced his Native American heritage and spent most of his life living with Native Americans. In his wedding picture he is seen wearing a head dress sitting on a white horse while his bride is standing beside him in clothing that appears to be made from buffalo hide. Gilbert died when I was young and I never really got to know him... I never had any idea why I had a Great Uncle who looked like and lived with Native Americans.

My Grandmother and Great Uncle Gilbert both had black hair... he had brown eyes... hers were hazel. The older children had blue eyes and blonde hair like my great grandmother, her husband and most other Norwegians. The two younger children were born at home and my great grandparents didn’t record Gilbert’s birth for 9 months after he was born.

None of this was discussed around my brother or sisters or myself while we were growing up. It was only brought to our attention recently. Shortly before my Great Aunt Lillian died she began talking about the situation. At first we thought it was just dementia, but we started looking over the old photos and the pieces seem to fit together.

I think long ago children were important to the survival of a farming family especially with the man of the house suffering from a severe disability. The younger two children may not have been “accidents”.

Rather like in WWII Germany tried to present the illusion that they were manufacturing 1400 tanks a month. After a few tanks were captured in North Africa, an analysis of serial numbers and analysis of casting marks gave insight as to the number that were really being made, about 275. Patrick Hitler, his nephew had a son whose dna was apparently tested, showed Berber (north african) and Jewish ancestry. His grandmother, Maria Shicklegruber(?), worked for a Jew, one Leopold Frankenberger, and he may have been the source.

His friend Emile Maurice was also determined to be jewish. So that is SS numbers 1 and 2. Himmler was no. 5.

Hitler made Maurice an ‘honorary Aryan.

The Saudis have some severe problems. Lots or marriages are arranged to secure water rights, and the families are heavily interbred. They know that is a risk. They have services by which a young wife can be escorted by a close relative to get impregnated by a young man who physically resembles the husband but is no relation.

That secures the water rights, and also helps assure that the oldest son or two are not idiots.

Didn’t see the show. I know that Patrick Hitler, a nephew, tried to get some minor job in Germany during WWII and was rejected.

I understand at least one lives in Texas now under the name of Stuart-Houston.

Stalin’s daughter also defected to the US and at some point returned to Russia. Stalin’s son died in a German POW camp during the war.

I think you’re denigrating it the wrong way. If you research you can find good info. Simply listening to wishful-thinkers is not that research, which is your mule reference.

No, I don’t think this is a matter of pride, just MOF.

I just can’t believe someone doesn’t actually know the basics of their own grandparents unquestionably. I know what all mine looked like and what they did and so on, and their basic ethnicities. Seems impossible to not know that for certain.
