Yes, for good and bad. I would rather, fir once in my life have an election about the role of govt and the rule of law without appeals to gays or abortion to inflame emotions, pro and con.
We have a very teachable moment about the very real limits of big govt to function, a referendum on the utter failure of the progressive vision when put into practice.
Why would we want to make this, again, about social issues?
Because by and large people are NOT deep thinkers, do not give a crap about the role of gov’t and the rule of law. you and hobbes both ascribe way more intelligence to the electorate than they deserve. women vote with their vaginas, as it has been shown, gays vote with whatever they have too. you can be all ivory tower and have a pristine discussion about the rule of law/role of gov’t and a handful of eggheads will participate and we will be slaughtered at the polls.
i am with you, SG, i would not vote for dem no matter what the office. it’s a war and they are on the other side.
We still need to present ideas. Either that or personalities, and personalities are lacking on our side. And it is a weaker form of mandate.
McCauliffe has right on his banner about how he is for “jobs.” That’s an idea.
I guess now he will follow through by making a million electric cars and employing thousands in the process.
well ideas are nice, and if they are catchy phrases like JOBS or ABORTIONS they will attract voters. but if the ideas you present are to limit government and abide by the rule of law, you will be met by a LOT of glazed eyes, from those who have ZERO appreciation for what that means in practical terms as far as $ in their pocket or what goes on in their day to day lives. The great majoirty of voters are self-absorbed morons who give not a rat’s @$$ about the welfare of the country or the greater good.
Life, is not a social issue.
Whatever it is, let’s try to get people to join us in undoing the Obama damage and in righting the finances of the nation.
Then we can try to win hearts and minds on these other potentially divisive issues.
Sure. But things like “vouchers” and “freedom to choose” are simple concepts that we could be selling.
