I’m no disco fan, but Chic certainly deserves it more than many acts that are already in. Their influence was huge.
I tend to agree. Chic may not have been rock per se, but they were influential and a heck of a lot closer to rock than Run-Dmc or N.W.A (the former being inducted, the latter being a 2014 nominee).
Chic’s drummer, the late Tony Thompson, was a first-rate rock drummer, too. Did some great work with Robert Palmer and also The Power Station.
I swear the first time I heard that Daft Punk song, I thought it was an old Chic tune.
I’m pulling most for Deep Purple (why the heck have they waited this long?), Peter Gabriel, and Link Wray. All three should have been in long before now, IMHO.
No strong feelings about Hall and Oates, Yes, Linda Rondstat, or KISS. Like H and O, but don’t feel like they HAVE to be one of the acts who gets in this time around.
Disagree with the nominations of The Replacements, NWA, and LL Cool J.
The early musical training he credits to a man known as Hambone.
As Lux Interior says in an interview on Youtube, that’s rock, art or something, that’s not rock and roll!
Oh yeah, and when the heck is someone gonna nominate Rainbow?

70’s Rock/Metal doesn’t get much better than that, IMHO.
Where’s Lemmy and Motorhead?
Link Wray was previously entered in the Hall as a “one hit wonder”. A “wonder” who inspired Pete Townsend to pick up a guitar. A guitarist who is still celebrated by Bob Dylan. A guitarist who inspired Keith Moon to strip naked and run around the studio screaming his name in 1972. A guitarist cherished by Jimmy Page. A guitarist who made John Lennon turn fanboy. The guy Bruuuuce Springsteen originally wrote “Fire” for.
One hit wonder indeed.
Lightnin’ Hopkins belongs in there as well for inspiring countless musicians (big name black blues artists as well as 1960s art school Brits) to pick up a guitar. Ringo Starr almost moved to Houston (just a few months before he was tapped to join the Beatles) because that’s where Lightnin’ was. He at least belongs in the hall as an influence.
“Artists become eligible for the Hall 25 years after the release of their first recording.”
It seems strange to consider that Elvis was dead before he would have been eligible. I was a teenager when Elvis died and I thought he was ANCIENT!
Lemmy’s got some health problems. They are probably waiting for him to die to recognize him. You know how these things are.
You can’t kill Lemmy!
Every time I read about this ‘Hall of Fame’ I’m reminded of a sign I once saw driving Highway 17 to Santa Cruz, directing drivers to THE Artichoke Hall of Fame. It’s as importaint.
