Read 1984 again. It’s called ‘doublethink’ in newspeak.
So, I assume you get all of your information from headlines and bumper stickers, since you regurgitate secular summaries as though they reflect reality?
The moral of the parable of the rich young ruler is our need to rely on God, and not riches, but the liberals who love this story want everyone to rely on their god, the “riches” of government!
No, Jesus would not encourage the poor to rely on the government in place of God!
Excellent points! Jesus frequently dined at people’s homes, too. I can’t remember a verse where He says, “Hey, what are you doing with a house in the first place?! Why haven’t you sold this place?” Instead He accepted people’s hospitality. In fact, in the case of at least one guy, Jesus invited Himself to the man’s house for supper! LOL
I’m no theologian, but I would say it’s okay to have homes and other nice things, and we should accept them with gratitude as gifts from our heavenly Father...and then use those gifts to bless others, as the people in the Bible did.
I think some people at that time were afraid he would lead a movement to overthrow the Romans, but I believe that deep in their hearts they knew who he was, and that if they followed him, they would have to give up something much more important than their political power.
Thou shalt not steal.
Contrary to what they believed back then, the rich aren't given an easy passage into Heaven just because they have money. They have to travel the same path to Heaven as the poor...through Christ.
If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven
A directive given specifically to one man who was struggling with his wealth...not to all men everywhere.
Jesus was talking about the pride of the rich and their lack of compassion for the poor, which is why it was hard for the rich to get into Heaven. Much of the "rich" were ruling class that cared only for pomp, circumstance, and religious rites/tradition vice actual righteousness.
Jesus continuously speaks of willingly denying your family, friends, and possessions for HIS sake. He talks of willingly providing for the poor, the sick, and the widows out of charity and for the Glory of God - not forced compulsion by the state.
In other words, you either are wholly vested in your money, or wholly vested in God - "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." Matthew 6:24
We are supposed to lay up our spiritual treasures in Heaven vice being consumed with laying up earthly treasures that are eaten by the moth and given over to rust and rot.
He also talks of having a servants heart and not worrying about your power or station: Luke 22:23-27
Not only that, but Jesus, in Mark 12:35-40, clearly relates He is the Lord of the house of David........
David's son Solomon had this to say:
My son if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
If they say Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us work privily for the innocent without cause:
Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
Cast in thy lost among us; let us all have one purse:
My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
Proverbs 1:10-16
What are you talking about??????????
This must be some kind of talking point. I have had two liberal pukes make that same claim recently during commuter conversations here in Washington State on the ferry.
“like the Pope who said atheists can go to Heavan”
Why don’t you show us a quote?
In context would be nice.
If Jesus said to “sell all of your possesions” what did He say to do with the money?
You are waaaaaaay too touchy dude...I saw the quote, I saw the headline, I’ve seen the analysis.....what he said did not match the bogus headline from London, but it was a tad on the mushy side IMO.
The man was trying to serve both God and mammon.
It is like the parable of the Pharisee giving a large sum as an offering, but yet a mere token of his wealth - vice the poor woman that gave but one coin that was all she had. The Pharisee gave a high sum for his own glory at a low personal sacrifice. The woman gave a low sum for the Glory of God at a high personal sacrifice. The woman voluntarily acted in righteousness.
Oh, I thought this was about Hitlery.
Hellooooooo..? Bill is just using Jesus Christ to sell books. BAD idea, and he really ought to be ashamed of himself. Actually, he ought to be scared out of his mind for doing something that stupid.
So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them. His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord. He also who had received two talents came and said, Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them. His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.
Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.
But his lord answered and said to him, You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.
For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 25:20-30
She’s just evil and mean.
