Those cars from the 70's and 80's?

Most of them were such pieces of junk that no one would want them, except for a fundraiser with a sledgehammer.

That's true for a lot of them, such as our 1973 Pontiac Le Mans which was designed by John DeLorean, probably when he was on cocaine. However, I had two 1973 Ford LTD's that were great cars. That model can still sometimes be found on the road.

Today we drove by the Worthington dealership in Long Beach and saw the sign with Cal’s picture on it, along with the words “Rest in Peace.” I immediately turned on the radio and heard the news of Cal’s death. He was part of Southern California.

His commercials were spoofed by Cheech and Chong. “Come on down, bring your laundry, because we have washers and dryers for you...”

My father was an investigator for the DMV in the area. As I remember, he told me there were some complaints about Cal, but they always ended up clean. Dad had no problem with me going there when I shopped for cars, but steered me clear of some other dealers.

He once told me that the biggest problems the DMV had were rollbacks done by private parties and small car dealers, whose low sales volume increased the need for profit.

I think my Dad had something to do with the closing of Ralph Williams; that’s an OLD memory.

Thanks ... seems to me Worthington had a pretty good reputation over all those years. The prices on some of those used cars sure looked fair to a teenager who yearned for her own convertible!! {^) But who got an old four-door ‘64 Rambler as a “gift” instead!!! {^) I came to love that ol’ car!

I think he picked up that routine from, “It’s Ralph Williams and his dog, Storm.” Cal took it and ran with it.

RIP Cal.
