Sounds like it's the African-American mash-up of Forrest Gump and Remains of the Day. Good movies have been made on similar themes. It was a mistake, though, to pretend that this one was history, rather than fiction, and a mistake to try to cram so much into one picture. The TV miniseries Backstairs at the White House was less pointed and probably more accurate.

Before we get too much into the whole Black-White thing, it would be important to not that the actual screenwriter is a white man, Danny Strong, who played the wimpy guy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Mad Men and wrote Recount and Game Change. Whatever's going on in the picture has as much to do with Hollywood as with race -- probably more.

Boot gets one dimension of the whole complicated "house slave" thing, but doesn't quite do justice to the matter, which goes beyond easy "off the top of my head" answers, as embittered questions do. Also, the most striking possibly invented thing about the preview was JFK saying soppily, "You changed my heart." It sounds exactly like the kind of thing Jack Kennedy wouldn't have said. That's the first myth I would have gone after.

Marxists are to history as the AIDS virus is to health.

ANd now I need a new keyboard.... excellent line. May I steal it?

Sorry about your keyboard, Nifster! By all means, please do help yourself to the line and pass it on. Marxism literally is a major cause of death. Leftist extremist governments in the twentieth century murdered well over 100 million of their own citizens, and perhaps as many as 200 million. Those sums make AIDS look positively trivial in comparison.

I found The Help also another typical stereo-typical movie.

All the whites (except the heroic reporter of course) are portrayed as shallow, vain, and prejudiced and all the blacks are portrayed as deep, put upon and heroic.

That is just not the truth about how it really was.

Oh, and the pie scene was absolutely disgusting.

Was that scene before or after JFK ordered that young girl intern perform oral on one of his advisors ?

Because you did not read the book nor see the movie, you guess is wrong. And moe is the shame that you haven’t bothered to find out
