Where are you planning to move to? I know you like having the solitude of your walks in the woods.
i do love those cabinets! they are downstairs and have the wrought iron pulls. i want a wrought iron chandelier to go over the kitchen table to match it too. I have a ceramic tile backsplash downstairs that i designed and he installed for me and Mr B raves about it all the time, he said he has copied it for other customers because he likes it so much. I will probably do something similar again. Custom here would be entirely high end! it’s so funny, bc i feel i am going the cheap route with off the rack and you say custom is cheaper there. we don’t have many guys like that up here!
we are looking for more storage space, and he has done that with this design, he’s enlarged the island to have storage below on both front and back. now there is an overhang and no storage on the side facing away from the sink. We never used it as a breakfast bar, but that was what it was intended to be with space for the stools etc on that side, so it’s just wasted space now. on the opposing wall next to the double wall oven, is a cabinet above a counter and open space below. we did not think to have that closed in and a cabinet put there when we bought the house orginally. i guess the idea there is to have an office in the kitchen with a chair there, bc that’s where the phone is. Now again, it’s open wasted space. we never put a chair there. That will be a cabinet in the new kitchen. he is going to have one of the cabinets next to the sink pull out with trash containers in there. now that will consternate Jules to no end, bc he LOVES the trash can, and invariably has to be yelled at once per day to get off of it!
That’s a lot of stuff for making salad. ;-)
bag salad causes e coli, i saw the other day, have to make it from scratch now, need more room ; )
The 300 is going to my contractor compadre for the well-maintained engine and transmission-he wants to put them into a kit car he wants to build.
I got an old-but-well-kept Toyota 4Runner back in March to drive, and I’m pretty pleased with it-I feel more like myself in a truck/SUV, and it can go places a car should not.
I don’t need a Harley or any other bike-I have no experience with them other than riding behind MT5 when he had one-it was fun, but I have no interest in driving one...

Big thing this weekend for the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bushy Run.
This is practically neighboring on the house I grew up in.
“we dont have many guys like that up here!”
That is only because you don’t live in the hinterlands-there are always tiny one-or-two person small businesses, artisans, and contract laborers like me in rural areas-we’ve all got to make a living. But by the time you ordered and shipped custom made cabinets for a kitchen up to where you are and got them installed, you’d likely have used up the difference in price, plus more.
I have a lovely wrought iron chandelier with faux stone bulb holders in the dining room. I got it at Lowe’s, and loved it when I bought and put it up, but it doesn’t match the more casual southwest style I’m planning to go with next time-so I’m not taking it with me. I’ll go with something more ranch-ey and Texas next time-maybe a punched copper shade from a guy in the next county who does welding and that kind of stuff on weekends in his garage-he makes some very pretty and imaginative ranch style stuff.
i was trying to recall and i think it was Poke Run that was down at the end of 366.
not sure why that page isn’t showing.
If we still had my mom’s house, we could park there and walk over. Only weekend that they charge admission (to the park). For this they are running shuttle buses. I guess they will be using one of the lots here at work for the shuttles.
Don’t know if I will make it over.
Tonight, I think we’re going to the demolition derby in New Alex. Haven’t been in probably 5 years.
you are lucky to have local artisans. even if i went to a craft show to find something like that it would be expensive, because of the clientele.
oh lord we did that when i was little. we were hillrats!
is that what beadboard is? with those lines? xsbro and SIL’s house in Houston has that look on the regular inside doors, along with the wrought iron spindles on the staircases, i love that look.
I’m going 10-12 miles away to the next wide place in the road-but no lake and no summer/weekend homes or people-just old hippies, preppers and other going galt types like me-plenty of woods there, ranches, etc-a couple or 4 acres there is less than a lot here, and quieter-that is enough land to have a sizeable garden that I can actually barter/sell from as well as my own needs.
There is a small flea/farmers market where there is even more barter than here-almost a commune/co-op. I know a couple of people out there, so it suits me fine...
If you leave right now, you can make it in time!
I always thought bagged salad was somehow not safe, no matter the rinsing-I’m glad I don’t buy it or eat it...
Some of the very old ranch/farm houses around here have original beadboard ceilings that the owners are very proud of-some of them are businesses-a restaurant and bar, a real estate office and a tea room come to mind. I’ve seen it finished several different ways-I like it best just finished with Minwax or some other brand of clear sealer-pretty stuff...
Rme. Can you post a pic of the handles?
