There is little reason for large bookstores to exist. People who want to just sit and read (without buying) have libraries. Online stores can ship you a hardback in a day or two, often for less than you would pay at the store. If you are looking for a good read NOW, buy an electronic reader and download it.
I like to read before going to sleep. Before my iPad I would have to stock up on books - which got expensive, fast - so I would always have something to read. Occasionally I would inadvertently buy a stinker - at close to full retail - and read it just so I didn’t feel I wasted my money. Yuck.
Now, if I finish a book and want to read more, or the next one in the series, I just go to the Kindle online store and in seconds I am reading again. No trip wasting time and gas and the book is generally cheaper than the print version.
I still collect hardbacks, but having an e-reader has greatly simplified my reading habit.
