The short version: “We want more money!” Right. Saving the world ain’t cheap.
I’m going to mark Dennis Bushnell down as: “Believer”
True. But surely we can afford to invest a tiny fraction of what has already been spent on "hot fusion" with pretty nil results.
And better to spend it here than on most of the "global warming" prevention schemes thus far put forward.
That disturbs me a bit. From my point of view, there should be big money in “saving the world.”
Al Gore would agree, I think. Meanwhile we’re still waiting on him to deliver.
“True. But surely we can afford to invest a tiny fraction of what has already been spent on “hot fusion” with pretty nil results.”
How about reducing the amount spent on “hot” fusion to the same level as “cold” fusion? Or eliminate both.
I can only think of a few hundred projects that would bring quick benefits to a lot people if it had an infusion of a couple of billion dollars.
No, because we need the energy if we are going to raise the standard of living of all humanity to that of the USA/EU today.
"I can only think of a few hundred projects that would bring quick benefits to a lot people if it had an infusion of a couple of billion dollars."
Try thinking up ONE project with the potential impact of practical cold fusion technology. I doubt that you can.
Neither the U.S. nor E.U. is able to maintain the standard of living it has let alone raise the living standards of the rest of the world and it has little to do with virtually free energy, a mental perpetual motion machine.
“Try thinking up ONE project with the potential impact of practical cold fusion technology. I doubt that you can.”
(1) a technique for very efficient water desalinization
(2) food crops that would grow well on very marginal land
(3) an inexpensive any stage cure for malaria
That's with one hand tied behind my back.
With abundant energy, raising the standards would be not just possible, but easy.
"(1) a technique for very efficient water desalinization
Abundant energy fixes this, if by nothing more than direct distillation.
"(2) food crops that would grow well on very marginal land".
Abundant energy fixes this (vertical agriculture).
"(3) an inexpensive any stage cure for malaria"
Affects only a small portion of the world's population. Small impact on the totality of humanity.
All in all, a weak effort on your part.
“With abundant energy, raising the standards would be not just possible, but easy.”
Anyone can recognize what an absurd statement that is. Abundant energy must also be inexpensive energy to raise standards of living.
Diverting limited funds into paying for our expensive energy use reduces investment into other areas.
Malaria
“Affects only a small portion of the world’s population. Small impact on the totality of humanity.”
Oh really? And who told you this nonsense?

***Wikipedia
The World Health Organization has estimated that in 2010, there were 219 million documented cases of malaria. That year, between 660,000 and 1.2 million people died from the disease,[1] many of whom were children in Africa.
You should have read further:
“Malaria is not just a disease commonly associated with poverty: some evidence suggests that it is also a cause of poverty and a major hindrance to economic development.[118][119] Although tropical regions are most affected, malaria’s furthest influence reaches into some temperate zones that have extreme seasonal changes. The disease has been associated with major negative economic effects on regions where it is widespread. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was a major factor in the slow economic development of the American southern states.[120]
A comparison of average per capita GDP in 1995, adjusted for parity of purchasing power, between countries with malaria and countries without malaria gives a fivefold difference ($1,526 USD versus $8,268 USD). In countries where malaria is common, average per capita GDP has risen (between 1965 and 1990) only 0.4% per year, compared to 2.4% per year in other countries.[121]”
One need not be ill or die to be negatively affected. Send a few mystical, magical e-cats and all will be well, right?
What a weak defense. Typical of anti-LENR skeptopaths.
Those e-cats are going to have to be imagined since they don’t exist and won’t in the foreseeable future.
LENR solutions from NASA”? Exactly what “lenr solutions” has NASA came up with?
It's only absurd if you don't realize that small, modular mass-produced, essentially fuel-less generators (and hence the energy from them) WILL become inexpensive, and quickly. The same factors that let high-technology and mass production make cell phones ubiquitous throughout the third world will work exactly the same way.
"Diverting limited funds into paying for our expensive energy use reduces investment into other areas.
See paragraph above. The potential impact of LENR technology is simply too great NOT to invest in the research. The shenanigans of the "hot fusion physicists" who have managed to stall LENR for all these years essentially constitutes a crime against humanity.

LOL. I can read a population map and a map of the extents of malaria infestations. Try it yourself, you might learn something. But I don't expect honest debate from skeptopaths. And widespread, abundant, and inexpensive energy will help even here (see "bug zapper").
HMMMMM....potential product....solar powered bug zapper?? Charge up outside during the day, bring indoors at night??
responsibly imaginable....
what ever happened to grammar police?
They went to work for Obama, and are happily investigating "tea party" groups.
lol
