All I gotta say is, YUP.

Roger Waters hates his fans so much he built a Wall between him and them and people still paid to see that crap.

And Springsteen !? LOL Was turned off by this multi-millionare droning and moaning on about the plight of the working man while flying around in private jets from his mansions. Hey "Boss" practice what you preach, give 99.99% of your money back. What? No? Thought so.

This list is idiotic. The author is clueless.

Don’t much care for Springsteen’s music, nor do I care for his asinine politics, but his contribution to rock is noteworthy.

Morrison was also a noteworthy contributor. The Doors are great!

Stevie Wonder is also a fantastic composer of pop. Not a big fan of pop, but he’s an outstanding artist and performer.

Agree regarding Springsteen, Wonder and Morrison. Waters, though an ass in just about every conceivable way , wrote and played a lot of great music. Bob Marley wrote and played many great songs. Boner should be on the list long before Marley and Waters. John Cougar also.

Bruce Springsteen was incredible in the 80’s - 90’s timeframe. I am not even sure if he has done anything since.

The Beatles have to be the most overrated musicians in history.....Michael Jackson too (except for Thriller).

Should we not determine whether or not the listed people are even “musicians” before we declare them overated?

I've been reading the thread with interest, can't say I agree with all the pans.

Michael Jackson gets trashed first and foremost because of the freak he became, and his behavior. He had his share of musical genius and was tremendously influential. Maybe it hasn't aged to the point that the music overcomes the been-there-heard-that of a lot of overexposure. I suspect history will be kinder to his music than it will be to him.

Genesis was awful post-Peter Gabriel, very interesting while he was front man. Phil Collins was a talented drummer and should’ve stuck with it, lol. Peter Gabriel did some very striking things solo until it went to his head and he began getting preachy. Same with Gordon Sumner. Same with Bono. Same with Springsteen. Same with a lot of household names.

I generally don't have much use for popular Pink Floyd. Popular Pink Floyd is anything that got airplay. Early Syd Barrett era is another matter, I enjoy it. Lesser-known tracks post-Barrett, there have been a few that worked for me. Somebody mentioned “Fearless” upthread, that's one of them.

I've never understood the esteem in which Geddy Lee of Rush has been held, sophomoric sci-fi lyrics, that godawful screechy caterwauling, I don't get it and never will.

List looks pretty accurate to me. As far as myself, I am still celebrating Rush’s long overdue induction in the HOF.

Since this seems to be a golden moldy overrated list I'll add mine:

Springsteen - I probably know all the lyrics to ten songs (grew up in the 80s) but I won't sing along to any of them, even in the car alone at night.

The Doors - I don't know what their “classical organist” got but he should have gotten 20 to life.

Grateful Dead - They were annoying and their followers smell. I was glad when it ended so I didn't have to listen to people gush about them any more.

Nirvana - I get what they did for music. Really. This is right in my wheelhouse and my generation. But I don't care. They are obnoxious.

Rolling Stones - I like some of their songs so I almost didn't add them to the list but I was probably four the last time they made a legitimate hit and people still fawn all over them. For the last quarter century plus the only thing they've done is decompose. Way overrated.

You have Bruce Springsteen down pat. What an over-rated nobody. The man has about as much attraction as a venereal sore.

5 OVERRATED ACTIVITIES AMERICANS ENGAGE IN:

1. Compiling lists of best, worst, underrated, overrated

2. Building Halls of Fame and choosing their members

3. Watching Whirled Series and Super Bowels

4. Paying attention to bestseller and popularity lists

5. Electing politicians to office
