But what about the Community Organizer degrees? What are they worth these days? I have heard you can go far with one of those.

That would be suggested by the heading on the chart.

RE: When I was selecting a major in college (1960s), I expressed an interest in petroleum engineering. My adviser told me in no uncertain terms that it was a dead-end job with no openings. Someone would have to die for there to be an opening.

I gather you took the adviser’s advise. What did you major in instead?

Languages. At the time there were government programs promoting all sorts of language learning/teaching. With the hippie movement and the elimination of many college requirements, language teaching became the 400 applicants for every college job opening. I ended up in insurance. :o)

Amazing! Not a single one of those degrees ends with the word “studies.”

60 grand for an experienced engineer sucks. That is as much as a Wal Mart floor manager....

That is what the H-1b program will do, lower wages of the hardest working Americans, engineers being a group in that category.

Finance is typically corporate finance, securities, investments and financial planning.

The keyword is “experienced.” And it really appears that you do not understand the word, “starting.”

I didn’t notice the word starting at first LOL. However if you adjust for inflation engineer starting salaries are not up that much, not much at all.

I have my doubts about these numbers since Computer Engineering is ahead of Computer Science. Computer Science is considered the far more desirable major.
