He needs to read and comprehend the Bible - God’s Plan doesn’t require us to leave the planet (or save it) in order for us to go on. I suppose some who are beyond redemption might think it a way to avoid the real End Game...

What is the point you are trying to make about getting your rocks off with 7 of 9, your post’s wording and picture leave me confused (and oddly sweaty).

“OH Mr. Hawkin you who said,’Heaven is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”

Wow, did he really say this? If he did it is on a par with what I concluded when I was all of fourteen years old: “Religion is a nice story pushed by old ladies and shutins to help themselves feel like they’re in the game”.

The merest glance at history shoots down his “afraid of the dark’ idea. Such people could not have brought The Word of God through time to us. Stunning that a man considered to be brilliant could have a blindness that is considered natural in a fourteen year old.

We're also in an arm of our galaxy with not many stars close to each other. In 50,000 years our system will be moving into heavy traffic.

Source please.

Hawking is concerned about the state of us humans, though, whether we’ll be here and/or have a civilization.

Using the U.S. as an example, look at our population growth in just the past 100 years. Can it sustain the same rate over the next 1000? I doubt it unless drastic measures are taken to curb it.

People are living longer, more diseases are being cured and technology is increasing astronomically.

In the insect and animal world, nature has a way to deal with the over population of any species except man since man has had the ability cure most of the diseases that nature has tried to throw at us.....think small pox.

With all due respect to Mr. Hawking, his estimate of 1000 years to escape earth doesn't seem to compliment his concern for global warming.

LOL! That's great! I like the one part he says: "And we have the CONCEIT.." Well we don't, but liberals certainly do like they do about everything else. Check out this cartoon I found a few days ago, absolute PERFECT example of liberals and their conceit, their "We know more than you" mentality....

The key to long term survival of mankind is energy, not space travel. Space is mostly empty, dry, and freezing cold. Life on earth can be sustained if there is enough energy to produce food, purify drinking water and treat waste water. Even most pollution issues can be boiled down to an issue of energy. With abundant cheap energy comes the ability to do nearly anything. The issue will become who will run and maintain all this equipment? Takes smarts to keep energy intensive, complex machinery running smooth.

ALS, or Charcot’s Disease usually kills its victims within five years. Hawking caught it around 1962.

Those countries are experiencing population decline but in countries like India, Brazil, and other undeveloped countries where birth control is not easily available, population is increasing rapidly.

It's not just birth control. It's a cultural thing. As the population becomes more affluent and prosperous, birthrates decline. The biggest threat to this planet is totalitarianism, kleptocracy, and evils like islam, that keep huge populations of the world in a state of continual poverty.  If we could see freedom across the globe, the 'problem' of population would eventually take care of itself.

That said, I do agree with Hawkings though not necessarily for the reasons he gives. An old quote by Robert Heinlein comes to mind: (paraphased from memory)

If mankind is to survive as a species, for all but a tiny portion of its history the term "ship" will mean a spaceship.
