Run full internal parasite/tick/thyroid panels on him and if he’s clean, start throwing -good- food into him.
I recommend EVO grain free [beef] and if that’s too steep, try Taste Of The Wild.
They have several varieties and my dogs prefer High Prairie.
It’s available at all Tractor Supply stores.
he’s bug free, and looks a little better. We just got him on a good food, and my dogs loved Taste of The Wild, too. We’ll have to look for it where we are now.
It could be a simple give-him-time thing.
Long periods of malnutrition affect their ability to properly absorb nutrients so it might take a while.
While you’re looking for the TOTW, try to find him some good pro-biotics to mix with his food.
Tractor Supply sells a very good powder called “Pro-Bios”.
Bless you for helping the boy.

When I was 10, my pedo uncle started in on me and my folks did nothing.
When I was 14, God sent me my first angel, a stray Dobermann.
The uncle stopped.
Ever since then, He’s sent me hairy angels every time I needed one.
Some literally saved my life.
Others saved my sanity when the residual ‘issues’ from the uncle became unbearable.
They all kept me going, one way or the other.
God is good and so is Dog.
:)
I am a firm believer it is no coincidence that God is Dog spelled backwards.
