The 1960 chaamp has a face and appears to have legs longer than an inch! The current examples look like a waddling disease. Their faces have nothing but teeth. They look like something you’d see under a microscope when studying some kind of flesh eating bacteria.
Here is this year’s Golden breed ring.
It looks like the blond, fluffy variety is the in look this year — not a red one in the lot. These dogs all look like clones of each other. There is really quite a lot of variety amongst Goldens in real life.
They have been doing that for years.
D’oh! I was going by memory at $10, and it was $1.65!
What a beauty! She’s MY kinda dog. Hehehe
How can anyone choose one out of all those magnificent creatures.
No, you are not misremembering.
All of the brachycephalic dogs used to have functioning snouts.
They’re victims of the “if smashed is good, more smashed must be better” syndrome.
[which is a subset of the “let’s get extreme!” syndrome]
No breed standard should call for the eyes to protude beyond the nose.
Yep.
See whay I go crazy about this stuff, now?
:)
Yep.
See -why- [not whay] I go crazy about this stuff, now?
:)
They look like creepy, mutant caterpillars, to me.
She gives me a Chrissy Matthews tingle down my leg.
LOL

They're hideous.
I hear what you say. I do have to say I have never been a fan of shaving your dog like in the summer unless there is a medical reason. That hair is there for a purpose to heat and cool the dog.
I don’t mean really shorn, just clipped or otherwise plucked to keep away from excessive length. I know many small dogs whose coats are not hugely long as we see in shows.
I agree dogs should not be shorn, even in summer - those with undercoats are essentially already protected from excessive heat, nevermind sunrays. Unfortunately, my bath place shears dogs for people who think this is good for them.
I’ve only had one dog, an English Cocker, that had to be clippered in any way (but her sides and legs are left alone). I don’t understand why people purchase Lhasas and Shih Tzus and immediately shave off the coats that are the hallmark of those breeds. Why not just get a beagle?
I know you didn’t mean that. People just think they are doing their dogs a favor and it’s hard to look at one with a heavy coat in summer. They aren’t. I know what you meant and agree.
There is no doubt in my mind that a GSD can herd or that may have been the original intent.
I’m pretty sure that if they had opposable thumbs their accomplishments would be limitless.
But am I just dreaming or aren’t they usually entered in the “working dog” category? I was a little surprised to see the GSD in the herding dog category.
If I were going to get into the competetion aspect of having a dog..it would be a GSD or Irish Setter. They have such a beautiful stance when being shown. Since I deal mainly with mutts..not much chance of that happening. My ancient Lab mix got his panties in a wad and went to bed when the Lab didn’t get no love.lol
>But am I just dreaming or arent they usually entered in the working dog category? I was a little surprised to see the GSD in the herding dog category.<
Years ago, all herding dogs were in the Working Group. AKC formed the Herding Group to reduce the size (and because it made sense). The GSD was one of the breeds put in the new group.
So, the German Shepherd as always been in the Herding group, since its formation.
Yes, the GS was in Working when there was no Herding, but it’s been some 30 years.
An apt analogy!
