LANSING Speaker of the House Jase Bolger, R-Marshall, issued the following statement regarding this mornings Health Policy Committee vote on a state-run health exchange:
It was my hope the committee would find that a state-run exchange afforded us more control over the unacceptable over-reach by the federal government regarding the health care of Michigan citizens. After due diligence, however, it is clear that there were too many unanswered questions for the committee to feel comfortable with a state-run exchange and we will not have one in Michigan. I applaud Committee Chair Gail Haines for her leadership and the large amount of testimony and discussion she welcomed on this issue. I know her focus never wavered from what is best for Michigans citizens.
The committee apparently was not able to get the answers to key questions or receive assurances about major concerns regarding costs for Michigan taxpayers, the ability to adopt a model the federal government wouldnt ultimately control or the ability to protect religious freedom for Michigan citizens. Because the committee could not be assured that a state exchange was the best way to protect Michigans citizens, it is understandable why they did not approve the bill.
Bttt CC are you our their?
WOOOHOOO! HOORAY Dave Janda and all activists involved in the defeat of the “exchanges”.

Oklahoma Refuses to Set Up Obamacare Exchange
Here's what Gov. Mary Fallin had to say:
"It does not benefit Oklahoma taxpayers to actively support and fund a new government program that will ultimately be under the control of the federal government, that is opposed by a clear majority of Oklahomans, and that will further the implementation of a law that threatens to erode both the quality of American health care and the fiscal stability of the nation, Fallin said.
Thank Janda, and thank 1600am WAAM for letting him have a radio show!
Thayrone Rocks too!!!
I’ve been thinking about a once weekly Michigan legislative ping. Not nearly enough light is shined on the doings in Lansing unless its something big. Besides, I think the state legislatures are our route to returning conservative power to DC.
Yeah, like three counties voted for him. 98% of the land is against the rats and we did vote down a slew of union thug constitutional proposals. And we hired Rick Snyder - a miracle in itself.
I just may have to consider moving back.
I know it's the title of another article, but I don't see the decision to reject a state exchange as a "move against ObamaCare".
Under ObamaCare, if I understand correctly, a state can set up a state exchange, step aside and let the fed set up a fed exchange, or have some kind of combination.
States are choosing door number 2, a fed exchange. They are doing it because everyone knows that the cost will be exorbitant and the states will go broke trying to fund it. The only reason to go the state exchange route would be to run it with different rules, but the fed has taken that option away. Every state exchange must follow the most minute of federal rules. So, the states are reasoning "why get stuck with the bill when we'll have exactly zero say in how it's run."
So, if you can't play unless it's the Fed's way, then let the Fed pay.
That is an absolutely reasonable position, and I expect democratic governor/legislature led states to also follow suit. California would be insane, given their current bankrupt condition, to accept the expenses of a state run exchange.
When Cali opts for a fed exchange, then ObamaCare is going to be in serious hurt for cash.
That is when Obama will propose a new tax structure: a 2-tiered flat tax + a VAT. (He'll have 2 tiers because he sees his credibility riding on "the rich" paying a higher rate.)
Isn’t Fallin a Democrat?
Guess not. Just looked it up. Fallin is a Republican.
How much of an exchange does Michigan need when just leaving the elderly out on the ice flows will keep them in federal compliance?
I guess that the fed govt erred in thinking that most of the 57 states would set up their own exchange.
Fallin is a Republican, married a Democrat a few years back.
how many states does that make?
Fallin’s a Republican.
