Cloverfield surprised me by how good it was. As a kid watching Godzilla movies, my heart always went out to the little people getting squished. The original Godzilla was the only one that tried to portray the human suffering with any genuine pathos. Cloverfield built an entire motion picture around the concept.
BTW I think this video is a great recap of Cloverfield... set to appropriately jarring music.

I like Forbidden Planet, but just think what a waste it would have been if Leslie Nielsen had stayed in “serious” roles.
Thanks for the info.
You are welcome.
Now you have me thinking about it, I’m going to have to dig out the DVD when I get home. :-)
Yeah, just about when he should have been retiring, Nielsen started a whole new career in comedy.
Forbidden Planet also had Robby the Robot who has been around ever since.

(with Sally Kellerman?)
Remember “Honey West?”
I knew “Honey West” was a series starring Anne Francis but I don’t think I ever saw it.
She was also in a couple of episodes of “Twilight Zone”.
She was an unusually pretty girl.
They are missing my favorite AC author (combination sci-fi/romance) Gini Koch with her Alien series staring Katherine (Kitty) Katt.
Wicked sense of humor, and totally something the this geek girl loves! :-)
I seem to remember seeing something that the Alpha Centauri system has an unstable star periodically throwing off the bad kind of radiation that makes it unsuitable for humans anywhere near the system, let alone on any planets in the system.

Revolution is like writing a series around the ds9 episode “paradise” I keep expecting them to run into cindy sheehan with a duonetic energy dampening field and they use a piece of lodestone to find it and destroy it......
That would be proxima centari and it is too far away from A or B to have any effect of the planets circling them.
If someone wanted to turn off the power to depopulate the planet, one year is enough - why wait 15? If you have the ability to turn it back on, why hide with your family and wait 15 years, knowing so many would die and your quality of life will suffer? The whole premise is unreal.
I have to correct you. The real title of that movie is Attack of the the Eye Creatures. They just didn't care. (notice the double "the"s) One of the best MST3Ks ever.
I think they are going to start using the Gliese 581 system for sci-fi aliens. They used it in Battleship first, and I am using it in my new book as the home of the first aliens we encounter. It's only 5 LY away, and it has a very Earth-like planet (maybe).
I looked up that movie and discovered it was a remake of “Invasion of the Saucer Men”. After reading both descriptions, I am certain the film I saw was the original from 1957.
It was in black and white.
My personal MST3K favorite was Hobgoblins.
