I wouldn’t ride in a tank through Alaska without a weapon.
Sounds like he got “treadwelled.”
“Some people say there’s a bear in the woods...”
One can only hope he was a liberal, bear loving, tree hugger. If not, then RIP
I wonder if he was carrying a heater. Something in a .454 in a holster.
Fishing alone in Alaska without a 454 Casull is a poor idea.

Wouldn’t have done him any good in a holster.
and his dad said he wouldn’t amount to...
Some of the comments at the end of the article are really precious. They don’t have any idea just how voracious a brown bear is.
It’s a shame to hear of such a thing.. Sitka is a beautiful area, on our itinerary next spring and Haines too.. We never stray from the tourista zones tho.
This guy was just making a living, had to beach with engine troubles and unfortunately had a load of vittles onboard, the area is heavy with bear. damn.
Forgot the little brass bells ?
I suspect any tree hugging looked like this:
From the article:
Puerta was a tree-thinner, Allen said. He was employed in an area that had been logged to cut young trees so others would have less competition and would grow faster.
Feeding the bears Americans won’t feed.
Sorry.
It’s just his name, and reading an article about an illegal alien crime right before this. Maybe he was new to the area, American or not.
Sad end.
I find it hard to believe that this local man wasn't carrying a gun, yet there seems to be no mention of this in the article.
Terrible way to die.
That’s a bad way to go.
Be careful out there. Nature isn’t nice. Those cute bears are bigger, stronger, and faster than you. They also will attack if you are either food, or bothering them. Citiots don’t understand that.
That’s life, get used to it. Sorry your are shocked though. Hope you can get oh through his day now.
