getting where???
they just announced Madonna added a second show at MSG- Zeppelin sold out two shows at MSG in 1970; both shows were on the same day....in ‘77 they sold out seven shows at MSG...they could probably sell out two months of shows if they wanted to play that long...
there’s absolutely NO comparison to the popularity of beiber or madonna to Zeppelin never mind their longevity....
Led Zeppelin was together for 11 years- Madonna’s been at it for 27 and can’t come close to the universal obsession that’s purely Zeppelin....
Thanks for the ping! i am a hugh fan.
I got to hang out a bit with Jason just before the last reunion. I hope that if there is another reunion, that Jason is the drummer again, as he has all his dad’s licks down pat.
The Rolling Stones recently had a count down. It was for a new “best of” release with 2 new cuts.
And the subsequent concert announcement was merely 4 shows.
If Madonna took a 10 year break she would get the same results. People like an oldies act I note when page and plant went out on their own, either solo or with another band, they didn't come close to Madonna's crowds.
I missed Zeppelin in Indy in 77. Saw the Who in Rupp Arena, and that’s my Rock religious experience. Zeppelin was ready to tour in 80, and I was definitely NOT going to miss it, but alas...
If they toured again, I would go.
The ‘77 show in Indy was pretty good. Although they ticked some people when they refused to play Whole Lotta Love, saying “we’re not into that s**t” anymore. But they did play Dazed and Confused which was the main song I wanted to hear, so I was happy.
Their potential playlist is so big and diverse, they don’t need Whole Lotta Love, or even Stairway. They could just play all of Physical Graffitti, and I’d be a happy boy.
As for how Led Zeppelin endures over time, both of my sons have most of their songs on their iPods, and listen to them often. And I don’t think it’s just to humor the old geezer.
I thought they were dead!
They’ll open for the touring Monkees!
Both bands opening for Nickelback.
I’m waiting for the return of the early 60s Bobbys!

Jerry Lee Lewis had his fill of the “Bobby’s” in the early 1960s (quote at 50:22).

My countdown ended last Friday!

Although still counting down to see RUSH in November. New album, and still innovating. Their musicianship might be at the top of their game as well - but I sure like their old stuff. Although some like Geddy’s voice better now than the shrill sound he had back then.
I was a monster Zep fan from the beginning (like most teen boys my age when they hit the scene) but I’ve heard every lick of every song soooo many times I’ve just gotten bored with it. It doesn’t help that most “Classic Rock” radio stations act as if Zepplin only recorded six songs in their entire career and they play those same six songs constantly, 24/7. Sometimes I wish we could bury every known Zep recording in time capsule for 10 years and maybe when we dig it up it will sound fresh again. And Zep certainly isn’t the only cherished band of my youth I’ve grown to feel that way about. I guess eventually you can get burnt out on anything.
