Magnitude 7.1 - COLOMBIA

Deep @ almost 100 miles, so I'm not starting a new thread.

Something that's been on my mind of late, is the possibility that a deeper quake may be a precursor to certain types of shallow quakes? It should be possible to check for a correlation in the data that's available.

Or, we could just wait and see... ;)

Is it strange that there haven’t been any aftershocks?

Nah at that depth it is not unsual to have few if not any aftershocks.

However the quake did have the world shaking for almost two hours.

Yep, could lead to further/shallower events in other areas of the fault/plate. What the heck causes a M7.3, 100 miles below the surface?

The thing that interests me a bit just taking a look at the tensor ball...this might have been a flex quake. Now this area is not immune for sure to wicked deep quakes but it will be interesting to see future quakes in this area. I wonder now if the new calving of the asian plate will impact other plates as it continues to spread apart>?

Thanks for commenting. I value your opinions. I have so much to learn and so little brain space.

The Asian plate calving may have the effect of allowing other areas with pent up stress to release.

The only thing that I'm pretty sure about, is a continued increase in earthquake activity along with increased volcanic activity above and below the seas and these periodic large quakes are going to keep things shaking! :)

Interesting times for sure and something to keep an eye on.

That looks like a pocket T ink-spill without the pocket protector.

That must be caused by something else. Maybe someone bumped the recorder or detector?
