Heh heh...as if “common sense” had anything to do with consumer marketing...
How are Nokia phones reception wise? I have a Motorola and it is way better than my Samsung galaxy 1 was.
In this case the camera is just active image stabilization and a fast lens. The previous camera technology supporting the same name was a 42 megapixel monster that was down sampled to 8 MP. Although this phone uses the same name for the technology, the technology is not the same.
According to Nokia, they are making use of the pureview technology. It won’t be the 42 megapixel, but “only” 12 megapixel.

Your link says 8.7 MP sensor, not 12. Nokia came out and said that their use of the term pure view technology is not really associated with any specific technology, just any system they make that gives good results.
If that doesn’t make sense to you, join the club.
I guess we’ll have to wait for the phone to actually come. I’ve seen conflicting reports as to what the camera will do.
I think it’s fair to say that it will take a nice picture.
Nokia says that the software that makes up pureview is in the Nokia 920, so it will give a better picture for sure.

My first cell phone was a Nokia. So long ago I can't even remember the decade.
