I don’t cultivate a wide circle of “associates” who need to update me on their family achievements. I can see in certain businesses where you would need to.

I turned Fox off for the summer...haven’t missed it. Put it on this morning to catch up, but turned it off as it was distracting. Caught up on line faster.

As few as necessary. I’m much less social in real life than my effervescent online persona would have you believe.

That word is also suggestive of conspiracy theories-

There is a conspiracy culture
Both on the left and right-
Some of the wilder theories
Could keep one up all night

The most idiotic and obnoxious
On the Marxist-loon plantation?
That 9-11’s deadly acts of war
Were a false flag operation

The lunatic Iranian president
Believes that nonsense-and yet
He believes the moon landings
Were all done on a movie set

I’ve held to only one covert theory-since I was a young teen-and that is that Oswald (who was a wacko) was hired as a disposable shooter by a cadre of mobsters...

I’m in the same boat as you. We don’t have friends who are braggarts. And we don’t correspond with acquaintances who do that sort of thing. It’s crass and I wouldn’t reinforce it by a response.

I’m going to save the nemesis quote to send to my real-life nemesis if he ever contacts me again-it is great...

i accept my friends as they are, warts and all. life would be mighty boring if we were all the same. even the braggarts and libs among them have other redeeming qualities which make our friendships possible.

I watch a heck of a lot less FNC than I used to do.

I did catch the panel a few weeks ago, it was good.

I only get the bragging letters/e-mails from 2 friends-and they’ve been sending them for over 18 years, apparently never getting a hint from the fact that they don’t get a reply. Maybe I should start sending them an answer that says that’s just lovely, or how nice for you-either way, it means the same thing...

I’m necessarily selective in my peerage selections.

I think you are handling their rudeness admirably. No response is sometimes the best response.

i don’t take personally my friends foibles i guess. i don’t consider their bragging about their kids to be an affront or rude in any way. people always have reasons for the way they are. one of my best friends grew up in Guyana SA, is now an atty married to another atty, and has the daughter who graduated from Harvard who is now over at Oxford. Do you think that coming from the Third World might in some way have something to do with the bragging? i do. and i also know she is a wonderfully kind and generous friend who would do anything for me or my family. when my father died, her husband drove their daughter, who is one of xsteen’s best friends, 5 hours each way in one day, so they could pay their respects at the funeral home.

I ran into a neighbor that I hike with at the general store on Monday. We were talking about the election, and she said she’d actually talked to a neighbor who was an undecided voter, and did I not think that was surreal. I told her that particular neighbor was too much of a space cadet to vote, and we should call and tell her to just stay home instead.

Granted, she was referring to someone who has been ravished by Saxons in dark age Britain on a virtual reality site ever since her divorce, but I’m not usually that uncharitable...
