Actually I was surprised.
I went in at 830, because the last time I went (years ago) they opened at 8.
The place was locked up tight, except the PO boxes of course.
I heard noise behind a window, knocked on it and this woman says “what”. I asked where the window was so I could send a package.
She said “self service over there” and closed the window.
I’ll just use FedX or UPS next time, they have always been great and never a problem.

The postal deficit is due to Congress requiring the USPS to prefund employee health benefits for the next 75 years.

In the open means in common view.

It’s not a service we need the Federal Government to proved. What ever tiny market is left can be and should be serviced by private businesses.

I did get a bowl I bought on ebay delivered broken once. It was poorly packaged by the seller, in my opinion, but it had been insured and so the USPS took it and gave me the amount of the insurance (the amount I had paid for the bowl) plus the shipping cost. I was disappointed but was out nothing, so I was satisfied. It was a fragile piece, poorly packed.

"USPS just dumps stuff off in the open."

I'm lucky in that I have a great postman. If he has a package that can't fit in my mailbox, or anything with delivery confirmation, he brings it to my apartment door on the third floor. If I'm not home, he won't leave anything at my door, but will leave a slip in my locked mailbox so I can pick the stuff up at the postoffice the next day. Unfortunately he doesn't work 6 days a week. Some of the subs that have covered for him leave a lot to be desired. Just yesterday the sub had a package of my medication that wouldn't fit into my mailbox. Instead of knocking on my door to hand it to me, he shoved it in the open bin that sits below the boxes. Anybody could have taken it.

Fedex and UPS find me and deliver packages wonderfully. USPS has yet to deliver an overnight letter/package/anything on time. And I have lived here 25 years. When we do get a package all they do is stick a note in the box to come pick it up the next day (thus negating the “overnight” issue). They won’t come down the drive to see if we’re here.

USPS is also the only company to take an overnight letter and keep it in their offices for several weeks, then return it to the sender. We have complained to the postmaster, who does nothing. We have determined that in order to work for this particular branch reading is optional.

Yes, amazing what can be done via a tax-free monopoly running an ignorable debt in the billions overseen by a board which refuses to raise rates to responsible levels.

If it were a private business the Left would have shut it down and jailed the CEO.

My local USPS and UPS seem professional and diligent in their work. My local fedex workers often seem like they played 36 holes that morning and then got stoned to the begeezus belt that afternoon.

I think our different POs around here have different hours. The Boca one has longer hours than the Delray one. But we also have several in gift shops (which are nice because most people are unaware of them so there is rarely a line). Most of the time I just use the self service for most packages as long as it will fit in the box and isn’t something that requires insurance or some special handling like going overseas etc.
I don’t think I’ve ever used FedEx myself and UPS is always more expensive when I compare, but that’s because I have to go to the UPS stores and I think they tack on extra. I occasionally use UPS if it’s something big and I need to get it out on a weekend or cannot pack it myself.

Please tell that to the old couple living in BF Kansas.

USPS goes to EVERY address in the USA EVERY day, does UPS?

My UPS guys do that.
The USPS acts like they don’t even know me.

The UPS guys have been known to show up here at like 730 in the evening because they are out making delivery’s to all the folks they know aren’t home until after 530.
They’ll tell me. We knew you wouldn’t be home till later, or we saw the truck wasn’t here so I came back later.

They adapt to me.
USPS doesn’t give a darn here and Ill be dipped if I can figure out their schedule.
Sometimes they come by at 10 am and sometimes they don’t come around until 430.

There’s no excuse for rudeness, but a post office station is a busy place in the morning. There’s a deadline to get the mail in the PO boxes, and when I worked there it was usually a close run thing. I learned to ignore the people knocking on the door before we opened because if I started opening the door, I would not be able to give the boxholders the service that they paid for.

The old couple in BF Kansas (damn you for that slur) is not owed mail service. Mail service is not a civil right.

Would we need to amend the Constitution to get rid of it?
